How to jailbreak TV 4 (4K) 11.3 with electraTV *including extras*

The Electra team has released nitoTV and Jaywalkers ported version of the electra jailbreak for tvOS! Fantastic news!

This works with tvOS 11.2 - 11.3 and (yes) it's KPPless!!

I'm going to show you how to install it and jailbreak!

First, lets run down what you need before we dive into it:

Requirements

TV 4 (or 4K)

Computer (macOS or Windows)

Xcode
or Impactor (get Impactor here)

iOS App Signer (*only if using Xcode*) Get the latest version here

electraTV (get it here)

Coffee

Now, we're good..

Let's begin.

First, launch Xcode and select "Start a new Xcode project"

Once you've clicked "Okay", this is the next screen. Make sure it's selected as tvOS at the top.

Then select "Single view app"

Then click "Next"

The next screen is simple, name your project. You can call it anything you want, but for now I'm sticking with "ElectraTV"

To finalize the creation of the project, put it in a familiar place (eg: Desktop) and click the box below. You don't need to create a GitHub repo.

After everything is set-up, your Xcode project will open.

With your project open, plug your TV into your computer. Then, go to the top and select your device.

Now you've got a provision profile for your device!

Next, head up to "Window" while still in Xcode and select "Devices and Simulators"

Keep this window to the side (for now).

Now, launch iOS App Signer.

Click and drag the Jailbreak file into the top bar and it'll fill out its location for you.

Next, go to "Provision Profile" and select the profile you just made from Xcode.

Then click "Start" I'll ask you where you would like to save the file, put it in a familiar place and hit "Save" and let the process begin.

After iOS App Signer is done, take the newly signed IPA file and move it into your Xcode "Devices and Simulators" window and the installation will begin.

Have some coffee.

If you'd like to use Impactor, just launch "Impactor"

Then click and drag the IPA file into impactor (with your device plugged in to your computer) and enter your Apple ID.

Take a sip of that coffee.

Upon hitting "Ok" it'll install the file to your device and you'll find electraTV on your home screen!

Now that he have electraTV installed, lets get a few things to ensure safety.

First, head to "Settings" Then "General" and "Profile" make sure the "iOS Beta Software Profile" is installed.

Next, head to "Settings", "System", and "Software Updates" and make sure the Automatic Updates are set to "Off"

One last step, head to "Settings", "General", "About" and take note of your "IP Address" We'll need this later.

Now, launch electraTV!

Upon launch, you'll get a big button that says "Jailbreak" click it once.

You'll get the same type of experience as iOS users get when installing electra for 11.3.1.

Just give it a few minutes.

Your device may reboot a few times, that's ok, just wait for it to boot up, launch electraTV and try again.

You'll get errors like this:

Just close it from the multitasker and your device will reboot.

The first time the jailbreak works, the big button will say "Rebooting" that's the first step done.

Re-launch electraTV (after your device finishes booting up) and hit "Jailbreak" again.

If it reboots, keep trying.

When it's successful, you'll see electraTV saying "Installing nitoTV"

..And it will follow up with another message stating that SSH is operational!

Now it'll respring automatically.

If you look on your home screen, you'll see nitoTV! congrats, you're jailbroken!

**Extras**

Here is the reason why we needed your IP Address from the previous steps above..

Head into "Terminal" (macOS) or "SSH Client" (Windows)

and type:

Code:
ssh root@YOUR IP ADDRESS
Then hit "Enter"

Follow the on-screen instructions and finally, enter the password "alpine"

Now, we're in root!

Let's edit a very important file..

type:
Code:
cat /etc/hosts
and you'll get a readout of your "hosts" file, this is where we're going to block updates internally.

Now type:
Code:
nano /etc/hosts

..And you'll get a text editor inside your device, just add this line:

Add these extra lines here too, this will ensure the updates are fully blocked (especially 4K).

then press Control X.

It'll ask you to save, just press "Enter", then "Enter" again.

if we now type:
Code:
cat /etc/hosts
It should look like this:

Now head to nitoTV and shimmy to the "Settings" tab, then click "Block Updates".

There, updates are blocked!

Hope you enjoy the jailbreak! Don't forget to thank the developers for their hard work!!

If you have blobs for 11.3, you can get an TV to 11.3 using this guide

As for 10.2.2, your best bet is to use backr00m. You can download that here.

Once you've installed the necessary files in the system, then just one click to enable the jailbreak.

You can download it to your phone using this

For tvOS, download the app "Apple Configurarot 2" from the Mac App Store and hook up your TV to your Mac, then just click and drag the profile inside the app.

Is the Beta Profile required for this JB? Yes I read the instructions but it doesnít specify WHY itís loaded. Iím presuming only to block OTA on stock before JB is active.
Iíve already blocked OTA using the hidden menu

i didn't bother loading beta profile, my ATV4k is on 11.2.1, i've only edited the host file inside the device after jailbreak to block updates.

It's needed due to nitoTV's "Block Updates" tweak not successfully working half the time. The profile guarantees the updates blocked. As for the hosts file edit, that is just a nail in the coffin internally (in case your device installs by itself).[color="#d3e009"]

The hidden menu method doesn't work for tvOS 11.3 (hence the bypass method for editing hosts)

11.2 - 11.2.6 were untested as only a handful of users has it when the rest were either on 10.2.2, 11.0, 11.1 or 11.3.

I heed caution with anything over 11.1 as Apple has probably patched the hidden menu method. Use iOS Beta profiles and edit your hosts file when you're jailbroken. This will ensure safety and prevent updates.

-----EDIT------

The hosts file is especially useful for the 4K, as it was designed to only update and prevent jailbreaks.

I appreciate the tutorial. Good stuff here. A couple of questions. I just got an atv4K and it’s at 11.3. My understanding (and since I’m new to this product I could be researching the wrong thing) is that for an atv4k I cannot hook it up to my computer and need Sierra or High Sierra to run XCode, or else I’m SOL? If I’m wrong, which I’d LOVE to be, would someone give me a bit of a helpful push in the right direction? Running El Capitan, and again an Apple TV 4K at tvOS 11.3. Also not really expecting my other windows 10 laptop to help. Thanks again :-)
Thanks again.

What you COULD do is:

1. Update your current Mac to support your 4K (wirelessly) in order to jailbreak.

Or..

2. Run a virtual machine (Parallels Desktop, VMWare), install macOS along with latest Xcode and connect to 4K with that.
