Jailbreak iPhone 3GS iOS 4 GM with Pwnage Tool Mac only

MSFT.guy released iPhone 3GS iOS 4 pwnage tool bundle, means with a little workaround in pwnage tool you can update your already pwned iPhone 3GS to iOS 4 GM with jailbreak and unlock support. Procedure is very easy, you have to add two bundle files to the DevTeam’s pwnage tool for Mac, that will enable support for custom firmware 4 beta Creation. Need less to say iOS is still in GM build, final build is now less than two weeks away.

Note / Warning :

The bundles included in this release are not official because they were not issued by the DevTeam.
You must be on already pwned 4.0 Beta / 3.1.3 / lower.
iPhone 3GS and Mac OS only.
This is for advanced users only if you don’t know, what you are doing stay away and wait for official Dev team / Geohot tools.
Use this guide on your own risk, i am not responsible for any damage (if any). The procedure mentioned below is tested by me and it works.

Instructions to add custom bundles


1. Download the iPhone 3GS iOS 4 GM Bundle mentioned in the requirements and unzip to your desktop or where ever you want .

2. Right-click the Mouse on PwnageTool and click on “Show Package Contents”

3. Then enter “Contents” then “Resources” and finally “FirmwareBundles”.

4. Move the iPhone2,1_4.0_8A293_bundle to the FirmwareBundles folder and close the folder.

Instructions to Update Cydia in pwnage tool

1. move pwnage tool.app to desktop

2. Place data.tar in PwnageTool.app/Contents/Resources/CustomPackages/CydiaInstaller.bundle/files/

3. and then open terminal and perform following commands

cd desktop

cd PwnageTool.app/Contents/Resources/CustomPackages/CydiaInstaller.bundle/files/

tar xpvf data.tar

4. Launch PwnageTool (now supported for iOS 4 GM) and proceed normally with the construction of custom firmware, you can take a reference fro our previous guide to Jailbreak iPhone With Pwnage Tool (Mac). This way, Mac users can jailbreak the latest iOS 4 GM while preserving their baseband.

I'm in 3.1.3 jailbreak from Spirit. I created a custom firmware with 4.0 following these steps, and I cannot Restore to a custom firmware. I'm getting error 1604

Try Recovery Mode and if that don't work then use DFU Mode.

Links are dead? Links are still working you see he has a MIRROR 2 in there

And there is no set way to Jailbreak, I can't even recall the hundreds of times that I tried a restore in recovery mode and it didn't work and I had to use DFU mode. Or I tried DFU mode and ended up having to use Recovery mode instead. There are soo many damn variables that it's always just best to try everything

Yes iTunes 9.2 which is only for MAC right now.

hi .. i just upgrade my iphone 3gs from 3.1.3 (jb by spirit) to os 4.0. i've created custom firmware but the prob is i cant restore the CF thru itunes 9.2 and error 1604.

Ok. My first post. Hope this helps.
I have an ipod touch 2g and got the same 1604 error. I've tried everything (including recover or dfu mode...) nothing worked... at least until I found a youtube video. I Just had to edit /private/etc/hosts and add "74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com" to the end of the file (without quotes).
I had 3.1.2 version, downgraded from 3.1.3 and jb with spirit.

In case of an error, try another computer. In my Case 3GS previous jail break 3.2 with Geo Hot I failed and got stuck in loop. But with another Computer, with sinful package it was smooth. i hope this helps

If you have jailbroken with SPIRIT the custom update will not work, it is a software jailbreak....

Only a bootrom exploit will work (Redsn0w, blackrain, pwnagetool)

Its along the lines where you should have been jailbroken prior to spirit, then you can custom update if you have the old bootrom...

hi all ... okey, ive downgrade from 4.0 to 3.1.3 by editing the HOST. n now i have SHSH from cydia.does it auto backup n can i upgrade by using the custom firmware 4.0 ?
