The Answer to 95% of Your Cydia Problems

Waayyyy to many people (Usually with less than 50 posts) are posting how their Cydia won't open, crashes, freezes, blah blah blah and describing their problem with usually half a sentence (If that).

I've gotten tired of giving them all the same answer:

REINSTALL OR UPDATE CYDIA

I have therefore stopped putting up with the n00bs and decided to make a thread showing you how to do this.


Requirements:

~ Latest Version of Cydia (for 3.1.3 (or iPad 3.2.1) or lower. - Cydia_1.0.3222-73_iphoneos-arm.deb. For OS 4.0+ - Cydia_1.0.3366-7.iphoneos-arm.deb or the current latest version, cydia_1.1.1_iphoneos-arm.deb)
~ Some sort of SSH program (I suggest iFunbox for Windows and iPhone Explorer* for Mac.)

* iPhone Explorer can access root files even if you are not jailbroken. Defiantly something to note and tinker with.

If you reinstall OR upgrade Cydia, ALL of your packages and sources WILL be preserved. (But using PkgBackup is not a bad idea...)



This Tutorial will Upgrade or Reinstall Cydia. It is done the same way.

Step 1) Download the correct Cydia .deb and place it somewhere easily accessible on your computer.

Step 2) Plug in your iDevice to your computer and open your SSH program.

Step 3) If you are using iFunbox, navigate to Raw File System/var/root/Media/Cydia/AutoInstall. (Note, if you don't have Cydia/AutoInstall folders, create them. THESE ARE CASE SENSITIVE!!!)

If you are using iPhone Explorer (Or some other SSH software), navigate to Root Directory/var/root/Media/Cydia/AutoInstall. Again, if they are not there, create them. Remember they are Case Sensitive.

Step 4) Take the Cydia .deb you downloaded earlier and drop it in the AutoInstall folder via your SSH software.

Step 5) Reboot your iDevice.


And boom, Cydia works all of a sudden

---------------------- If reinstalling Cydia didn't work, try the following:----------------------

1) Try to Install Cydia via iFile and SDM. l8ter tutorial here.

2) Keep trying to do this tutorial. For some reason, Cydia reinstalls on the second or third try.

3) If your Cydia is blank or all your sources are gone:

~ Manually add a source (SiNfuL iPhone repo)

or/and

~ Go to var/lib/dpkg/updates and delete all the updates in that folder. Reboot.


4) Some of your sources might be bad. To manually remove these, go to ect/apt/source.list.d and edit the Cydia.list with Notepad or any other text editor by removing one source at a time and rebooting.

5) Go to var/lib/apt/lists and delete everything EXCEPT the partial folder.

6) If you have SBSettings, open it and go to Power>Safe Mode. This will respiring your iDevice with all your tweaks disabled. Then try to open Cydia. If it opens, go ahead and remove the last apps you remember installing before Cydia stopped working one by one.

7) If you tried ALL these steps and it didn't work & you have the the new Cydia (1.1.1), you can try to revert back to the older one and try these steps again if downgrading in itself didn't work.

I was too, for a while, but I got bored of being patient helping people that cant be bothered to try to look for a solution for themselves.

this should minimize the new threads about Cydia. For those who see new threads being posted, post a reply with a link to this one. Then click the ! button and state 'Cydia Issue' thread. We'll clear the threads when we do our rounds. That way, no one will have to keep repeating themselves on how to solve Cydia issues and this will just point to Da Haka's thread. Other methods of solving Cydia issues can also be posted in this thread.

Open Cydia and scroll down to see what version of Cydia you have. (x.x.xxxx-x)

it just crashes when i click on it.
i tried to update it with cydia AUTOINSTALL but nothing happens.
still crashes.
and yes i rebooted the phone, twice.

i have a iphone 3gs 4.2.1 with ipad bb

It's AutoInstall, not AUTOINSTALL.

I'm not supporting the asking of stupid, needless, or rhetorical questions but on the other hand, if your not prone to doing such things, and therefore have nothing of substantial consequence to add except for gratitude then find yourself threatened with removal if you don't say something what choice are left with other than expressing something stupid?

I too get very annoyed at having to go through volumes stupidity just find the answer to my problem. I would think that people possess the intelligence to type question they should have first used that intelligence to look for and read an answer.

I've spent HOURS trying these SSH fixes and the one other post that I looked at fixed it in 1 minute.

I would respectfully suggest that you add the simple
''Add one source and re boot" fix.

It worked for me.

Iv jb'd a 3GS on 4.1 with limrain hit install cydia and just get a White icon that won't open, iv tried reinstalling, rebooting, rejailbreaking and repeating and nothing is working to get cydia to open, will I be able to ssh and use this method to get it working??

Maybe. Use iPhone Explorer because that allows you to access root files even if you are not jailbroken. Then just follow the tutorial.
