Fix iTunes Error 3194 When Restoring / Updating To Stock or Custom 4.3.3 Firmware

Just like how it was when iOS 4.3.2 was released, it seems like some iPhone users are having trouble when restoring their device to either stock, or custom iOS 4.3.3 firmware.

Turns out, if you have changed your system’s host file to point to Cydia’s SHSH caching server (possibly for downgrading purposes), you wont be able to restore/update to iOS 4.3.3. iTunes throws Error 3194:

The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (3194).

This is apparently due to a bug in Cydia’s backend which should be fixed soon.

Temporarily, you can fix this by removing Cydia’s SHSH caching server from your host file. This can either done manually by removing Cydia’s IP address from your system’s host file, or by simply using TinyUmbrella, instructions for which are as follows:

Step 1: Download the latest version of TinyUmbrella for Windows or Mac.
Step 2: Switch to “Advanced” tab and uncheck “Set Hosts to Cydia on Exit” option.
Step 3: Click on “Apply Changes”, followed by quitting Tiny Umbrella.

That’s it! You should now be able to successfully restore or update your iPhone to iOS 4.3.3 firmware.

thankyou for this post, I really hope the right people search and read it tho, I have attempted to help 3 people in the last week all with this same error. They always start new threads instead of searching for EXACTLY what you posted bro. thankyou

there wer 3 of them last night... all the same problem...

they just didn't get it that 3194 is SHSH verification error

yea and then there was an additional 2 last week.............and i asked them if the host file had been edited, then i get that crazy look

if it is still not working you need to flush your DNS cache or reboot

im already log in as admin on my cpu but it keeps telling me i dont have permission to change my hosts file.. any ideas?

im on windows 7

I thought it's a must to reboot the PC after applying the setting under tinyumbrella.

when you hit the apply changes so there is no need to restart the computer

do i need to have my iphone plugged in before running Tiny umbrella ?
My phone just shut off and wont restore through itunes 3194 error gets thrown.

Is tiny umbrella supposed to know that my iphone is connected to my pc ?

Hi. Tried this so many times. Trying to restore using ios5 beta. Same error message. Already rebooted my pc. 

u have to update ur iTunes version
and this will not work on IOS 5 Beta

I am tearing my hair out I have tried every thing written every where I can find, I have rebooted, flushed dns, unchecked options in cydia , Im not going to give up its a 3gs, trying to restore to 4.3.3 6.15 bb it was running with this config but was rebooting every 10 mins so I tried going back to 4.0 or 4.2 with out any luck and now I cant even get back to 4.3

Im using the version 5.00.06 of tinyumbrella and it seems they removed apply changes. Im not sure its helping me at all
