iPhone 4 stuck in DFU loop...Shows notihng on screen even if i try to restore...
Please read everything if possible. If not, proceed down to the short version:
I jailbroke my iPhone 4 (iOS 4.1) with limera1n, saved my SHSH with TinyUmbrella, but it showed that SHSH was saved for 4.2.1 (I'm new to the iPhone world, so I thought it was okay)...Then I decided to use vWallpaper from Cydia, so I downloaded it...then i downloaded a video to use as wallpaper, and went back to the Home screen. Then, everything froze. I tried to do a hard restore using Home+Sleep buttons, and finally got to the screen where I had to 'slide to unlock'...when i slided to unlock, it showed the springboard. I wanted to delete the vWallpaper because i knew it was causing the problems...i opened cydia, but it would hang as soon as it opened...i tried this several times, but didnt work. so i downloaded iPhoneBrowser...Accidentally, i deleted the 'Applications' folder instead...when i rebooted my phone, there was nothing on the home screen...So, I had no other option besides restoring it. I downloaded the same IPSW (iOS 4.1), and tried to restore using iTunes 10...it gave me a 3194 error...so i searched over the internet for a solution...I clicked 'Start TSS server' on TU, but it gave me another error (1604)...I downloaded and used iREB, and bypassed the 16xx error...and restore went further...till it went to about 60%...it showed 1004 error...the iPhone suddenly turned off, and itunes said it was in 'Recovery Mode', so I have to restore it. It wouldnt boot up at all (no matter whatever combinations of home and sleep buttons i try)...I searched various forums, and found that it was the end of the restore, and that i had to 'kick it out of recovery'...the button was gray in TinyUmbrella, so i couldnt use it. I used RecBoot, iRecovery, 1clickboot to get it out, but nothing worked...I was tired of this, so I decided to give redsn0w a try...I successfully jailbroke it and installed Cydia, a big pineapple appeared and some codes ran in...but it wouldnt boot up at all. I used redsn0w to do a 'tethered' boot, and it booted with the pineapple logo...i synced it with music and apps (I'm on Windows 7)...i charged it using the USB port, and then unplugged...i tried to turn it off manually and boot it again, but it wouldn't boot again...i used redsn0w once again, and it booted fine (with the pineapple logo)...i pressed and released Sleep button so that it went to sleep mode..
I returned after about 5 minutes to check if it was okay, but it wasnt...it was turned off once again- and wouldnt reboot...So i opened up redsn0w once again, and did a tethered boot...but it wouldn't even show the pineapple logo...The screen was completely black (it actually went to the DFU mode)...I knew the phone booted because i got a click after sometime from the iPhone...but nothing would show up on screen...nothing at all!.... ...iTunes showed the phone in recovery mode once again!
I tried to do the restore once again in iTunes, but this time, I couldnt see the white screen, nor the apple logo, nor the progress bar...everything was black...iTunes gave me the error 1004 (which it gave me before), and i knew restore was complete...still I couldnt use anything to kick it out of recovery...I used redsn0w once again, and jailbroke. but the pineapple wouldnt show up, nor anything else.it was still completely black,...i got a click sound after sometime from the iPhone, and i knew again that it booted up. it was still black
iTunes recognised my phone, and asked for backup...i used the backup...and after sometime, the phone shut down itself...it said 'iTunes has detected and iPhone in recovery mode..' nothing worked..i thought it was because the battery was low, so i charged it up (i still didnt get anything on screen)..I can assure you that it wasnt damaged by water or anything else. it just turned off, and would never boot up again.!
I searched some forums, and found out that it was stuck in DFU loop, but found no solutions to get out of it!
i even tried restoring without altering hosts file in a newly installed XP machine, but got the error 3194 from iTunes. The main problem is, I'm from Nepal (Asia), and the phone was brought to me from the US...There are no Apple stores in Nepal, so I cant go for a repair, and I can't want to send it back to the US (because nobody is going there right now...maybe after a year!
Sorry for making it too long, but i thought it was important to present you the whole history...
---------------------
Cutting it short:
---------------------
My iPhone 4 (iOS 4.1, baseband 2.10.4- not unlockable yet) has stuck in a DFU mode, which doesnt show anything even when I try to restore using iTunes, or try tethered boot using redsn0w...No key combinations work, and the screen is completely black...(doesnt even show whitescreen, apple logo or progress bar when restoring). restoring on a new computer doesnt help, neither reinstalling itunes helps!...(we dont have apple stores here in Nepal)..I would really appreciate any solution for this.
Pls, I wanna use my phone again!.... Help me...I'm really worried...!!
What if i remove the battery and put it back??? Will it help? I heard that removing battery deletes the firmware, so i can restore it...Could anyone tell me if my problem can be solved my removing the battery and putting it back?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One more question: if I update it to 4.2.1, will i be able to jailbreak and unlock it soon? (when the unlockable version for 2.10.4 is released)??

I have the newest version of iTunes (10.1: checked for update, it was up-to-date), and TinyUmbrella is also the newest (4.21.01). I tried putting into recovery mode, but the screen doesn't flash at all...nothing happens. When i put it in recovery mode by plugging into my pc, i can hear the sounds of USB entering and exiting...still nothing comes up on screen...then iTunes comes up with "...recovery mode"...I dont think i will be able to save my SHSH for 4.1 now...
Then, I tethered booted using redsn0w (still the screen showed nothing), but i could hear the click when the phone booted...I opened TinyUmbrella, and it showed my device (although the phone was blank)...I clicked savemy SHSH, i tried requesting from Cydia and Apple, i got this:
Baseband: 02.10.04 - ICE_2_8
12/12/2010 08:25:12.066
Processing SHSH Request...
12/12/2010 08:25:12.169 Asking CYDIA for SHSH blobs for iPhone4 4.1 (8B117)... 12/12/2010 08:25:58.505 This device isn't eligible for the requested build. 12/12/2010 08:25:58.567 CYDIA DOES NOT HAVE YOUR SHSH FOR iPhone4 4.1 (8B117) THERE IS NO WAY FOR YOU TO GET THEM. SORRY. YOU ARE JUST TOO LATE.
12/12/2010 08:26:10.501 This selection will query Apple for your SHSH. THIS OPTION WILL NOT RESULT IN YOUR SHSH BEING SAVED BY CYDIA 12/12/2010 08:26:12.170 Processing SHSH Request...
12/12/2010 08:26:12.217 Asking APPLE for SHSH blobs for iPhone4 4.1 (8B117)... 12/12/2010 08:26:57.919 This device isn't eligible for the requested build. 12/12/2010 08:26:57.981 APPLE is NOT signing iPhone4 4.1 (8B117) SHSH requests anymore. All you can do now is select CYDIA and hope that CYDIA has your SHSH saved. If not, there is nothing you can do.
I tried to do a factory restore (I dont care about preserving baseband because its on a non-unlockable baseband already (2.10.4))...but iTunes gave me error 3194...What lines do i put into my hosts file if i need a full factory restore? I dont care about upgrading, downgrading, TinyUmbrella, SHSH or cydia anymore...can't i simply use iTunes to do a factory restore (without getting errors)?? maybe a factory restore will kick the device out of DFU loop...help me with the error 3194 (for now!)...I tried using sn0wbreeze and cooked custom IPSW, but got error 14.
Well, i want to clear this once again, i have no problem to do a full restore- but iTunes gives me 3194...help!
what if i remove the battery and put it back again??

I hope this news is better!
Guys! I did a tethered boot once again with redsn0w, and i could hear that it booted (by the click sound)...but the screen is still black- notihng shows!
One amazing thing th at happened was that, I got a vibration when i slided the ringer...iTunes also recognised my iPhone, and i could see the serial number, capacity and firmware version in iTunes...I could see from iTunes that about half the battery was left on the phone, so I plugged it into the wall charger...The phone gave a click again, probably saying that it was charging...but the screen still wouldnt show any signs, nothing flashes- its still black...Any idea what's preventing my screen from showing up anything??

I had the same problem. Here what I did
1 - Download firmware (iPhone3,1_4.1_8B117_Restore) save on your desktop
2 - tinyumbrella-4.21.01
3 - Plug your USB to your phone and your PC or Mac (iTunes should recognize it ) on the the iTunes screen [ Hold Shift or Command key and Left click on Restore ] the other Windows will pop up now navigate to the file that you just downloaded (iPhone3,1_4.1_8B117_Restore) on your desktop and the iTunes will be restoring your phone after its done you might get an error
DO NOT PANIC just click ok and DO NOT report to Apple.Leave the iTunes open
4 - Open tinyumbrella and click on Exit Recovery (on the top right) wait until you see the slide to unlock on your phone (it should take a little while) and you're done.
Oh yeah you'll LOST everything that you have on your phone, but hey you get your phone back
hope this help, sorry about the language.
This is just add on if anyone happed to stuck on DFU mode what you need to do is to (Hold the Power and Home button at the same time about 10 seconds and let go the HOME button keep Holding The POWER button until the Slide to unlock Appeared.

sounds like you have totally screwed the file system. My only advice, restore to offical 4.2.1 no tiny umbrella, no custom firmware, etc. Once it completes (if it completes), restore it again to 4.2.1 a second time. It might be enough to get the file system back into working order.

open the hosts file and delete everything related to apple "using umbrella button TSS SERVER adds some lines to the file like ip addresses with the word apple in it" don't care about these just delete them and SAVE THE HOSTS file, it doesn't matter iTunes will not cease to function, these are just phony lines umbrella creates to make restores with cydia.
after this is done restart computer and open the hosts file make sure the ip lines about apple are fully deleted..
open iTunes and restore your device to official 4.2.1 (this will update your baseband) this should fix everything.
you are way too fucking stupid,
1st 4.2.1 is a Thether jailbreak
2nd you can't "kick your device out of recoverry on 4.2.1" ...why? god damn follow the dev team on twitter.... jeezz.. this new firmware makes this function not work in umbrella YOU CAN ONLY...
KICK YOUR DEVICE OUT OF RECOVERY MODE ON 4.1 NOOOOOT 4.2.1
so what happens is that you try to jailbreak on recovery mode with redsn0w failing at the process...
if you create a custom 4.2.1 to retain baseband it will work indeed it does you get error 1004 but you can't kick out of recovery mode on this firmware... your best option if preserving baseband 2.xx is to make a custom firmware for 4.1 (this if you had shsh for this) itunes will give you error 1004 but this time using umbrella it will be able to kick you out of recovery mode.
after you restore to 4.1 custom and kick out of rm with umbrella use greenp0ison to jailbreak
if all else fails just restore to factory 4.2.1 if you jailbreak before a "backup" this will not work because a backup requires a reboot

White screen is DFU mode, you can kick the phone out manually or by using programs.

hey, my iPhone 4 is also suffering the same issues. I upgraded to 4.2.1 using custom firmware, boot tethered and it booted. I did several boot ups using redsn0w (boot tethered) and no problems at all. But then after i left my iPhone and it slept automatically, it went to DFU mode again and I can't now get it out of it, not with restoring official firmware nor redsnow is working, and the screen is totally blank during the restore process or anything else. Please guys I need help..

This is a wild shot but try running greenposi0n and jailbreaking it, it helped me get out of a recovery loop, maybe it will help you get out of DFU mode?

Well, that IS a wild shot, but might just work. My iPhone 4 is working properly now (yes, it was me who started the thread lol), with 4.2.1- jailbroken using GreenPois0n. Mine was in 4.1 before the "disaster", but it magically worked when I tried a factory restore to 4.2.1 on my friend's mac. Remember, if your iPhone is relatively new, there are HIGH chances that your iPhone does NOT have hardware problems, especially LCD problems..
Also, don't panic. There's a solution--restore to 4.3. If don't need to preserve your baseband (i.e. you don't care about carrier unlock), upgrading to 4.3 is your best shot. My iPhone had the exact same problem, and nothing would come up on the screen--even when restored (no apple logo, no progress bar!)--and it suddenly came to life when i upgraded to 4.2.1.
You could try the following steps. I cannot guarantee that it will work, but you can always give it a try!
1. Update iTunes, try again.
2. Use the original iPhone USB cables (some people have experienced issues with non-apple cables)
3. See that you have downloaded the correct firmware (I mean, did you just download a custom firmware for iPod/iPad instead of iPhone? or the website you downloaded it from might have renamed it incorrectly! See if that's the firmware you want!)
4. Try a different computer (Some say Windows 7 has shown problems! If a Mac is available, go for it!)
5. Did you try all the key combos? (eg. Home-Power for a minute?)
6. Is the battery dead? Does it vibrate when you toggle the mute switch? If so, that's a great sign.
7. Try using RedSn0w again. Then, after your iPhone makes the clicking sound when it boots up (the screen is still blank, but it should boot--that's what happened to mine), open iTunes. See if iTunes recognises your iPhone--is your iPhone on the left sidebar on iTunes? If so, take a deep breath. Don't need to worry! It might just be fine.
8. As @woodcutterni said, try RedSn0w, and use GreenPois0n jailbreak--this might just work! (I've heard that people got out of DFU look using BlackRa1n on older firmwares--You need to try that out! ( GreenPois0n only--don't try others. You might screw it up (even more).)
9. As a last resort, try updating. iOS 4.3 is not bad, in case you can wait for a proper jailbreak, and you don't need an unlock at the moment. Try this on a different computer if it throws some error.
It's been almost 4 months, and I'm still using my iPhone as an iPod Touch!
REMEMBER, YOUR IPHONE HAS NOT BRICKED--a new iPhone cannot get bricked at all. So, try doing all sorts of things- it will be fine.

This should help.
I too was stuck in DFU loop on my iphone 4, tried every possible solution that was available and i finally found a way that really worked. Simply upgrade your idevice to the latest firmware available, i.e. in my case it was 5.0.1. i downloaded and upgraded it using itunes, on my first attempt "1600" error popped up. I tired again but this time it worked, my phone came back to life
It's worth a try

5.0.1 a tether jailbreak, but before all this you must save your shsh blobs incase you restore your iphone with factory ipsw and get it to live, so next time you could have downgrade also.
I never faced problems like that because i have my shsh blobs saved and i go up and down as I please. i was on iOS 5 for about 2 days then it was not cool enough for so I went back to my untether 4.3.3.

when u iphone is dead like that u need a program to put in dfu program like this iREB 4.0.x-4.1-RC2.exe iREB-r4.exe iREB-r3.exe iREB-r5.exe all 4
---------- EDIT ----------
Reb allows you to bypass any errors during restore with a custom firmware. Simple, useful and straight forwards.
