Intermittent iPhone ring/vibrate Problem

my iphone 3gs is running in ios 4.2.1 and jailbroken already. when i switch my iphone into vibrate mode, it randomly and intermittently vibrates and is really annoying, when on vibrate, it occasionally thinks it isn't and then it is and it goes back and forth thinking it's on ring or vibrate even though the switch's physical location is on Vibrate. It just sits there vibrating for a while and you can see the bell and the bell with the slash on the screen until it stops. It's extremely annoying when it's in your pocket and it gets brushed the wrong way and it does this. pls help guys!!!

theres a toggle on SBsettings you can get to turn silent/vibrate on and off. theres also a toggle to turn off vibrate while on silent. theres probably a problem with your physical switch, so just leave it in the "Ringer On" position and use toggles you can also have a set timer when to turn the toggle on and off.

Just recently my iPhone 3GS 5.0.1 started doing the same thing, my phone is kept in pretty great condition and has never touched water or anything. It's never done this before, but just very recently I had the same problem. Last time it happened was this morning, no clue why?

I didn't install/delete/uninstall any apps or anything before or after this started happening

another thing, sometimes the toggle switch is ok but when im setting the physical switch into silent it doesnt vibrate.

it's definately the switch thats playing up, i've had a simular problem and i replaced the switch and it worked a treat...

Its physical problem can never be a software problem for a faulty switch!

I have (had) the same problem. Now I don't use my physical switch anymore, I installed an add on for SBSETINGS, which allows me to mute with software

about a year ago i had the same problem, i just restored it to 4.3.3 and jailbroken it and it fixes the problem. so i thought that it was just a software problem or whatever, then the problem came back a week ago, so i tried restoring and jailbreaking it again. but still, the switch has its annoying problems on it. i cant fix it anymore by restoring or jailbreaking it again.

the iphone 3gs and 3g are easy to open up and fix, um not saying u should do that if you have no idea what your doing, but probably the switch isn't in place

especially if a software restore doesn't fix it, then its for sure a physical error

This happened to my two old 3gs. Both of the times i brought them into apple they replaced no charge

maybe your vibrator is not working. out of battery. lol.
perhaps change the vibrator. check ebay for parts. go to Installing iPhone 3G Vibrate/Ring Switch - Page 8 - iFixit (guide).

some times the swisch itself breaks other times its the chassis that holds the switch in place either can give you the fault you describe. if you need replacement parts both can be found cheap online. hope you get it fixed.
