need help to downgrade 3gs new bootroom from 5.1 to 4.2.1 with ipad bb

my uncle brought a 3gs from uk which have the original 5.1 ios installed. now he wants to unlock it and he wants it untethered. now to unlock, it needs the ipad baseband 6.15 (if i am not wrong). i searched this forum for the guide but i found that thous guides are old

now please guide me someone to downgrade this iphone safely from 5.1 to 4.2.1 or any other ios possible so that i can unlock it untethered


note: dont tell me to directly restore 4.1 because one of my friend just did it and lost the bb chip now it has no imei no wifi no blutooth.

Check to see if you have any shsh blob first by using tinyumbrella.

No SHSH = No downgrade
You can downgrade to 4.1 but you need to make a custom firmware

Also you can fix your friends issue by reflashing the iPad baseband with redsn0w

I would ONLY use the iPad baseband as a last resort!!!!!! Once you install it you can't ever remove it, it ruins your GPS function on the phone for ever and you can NEVER restore to a stock Apple firmware (basically you can never select update or restore in itunes without using a custom firmware).

Where are you from? This is mainly for US ppl but I would try to call AT&T @ 1-800-331-0500 to see if they will have Apple factory unlock it (I had my phone done and thousands of others have too). Even if you don't think you're eligible for the unlock just call and tell them you bought the phone when you were in the US off of eBay and now you're over seas. It may work so it is worth a try.

if this is a 8GB 3gs u probably have the newer baseband, so updating it to 6.15 will render it useless as fuck

and for the unlock , i know vodafone uk unlocks it for 20£ and guessing all UK carriers will do just about that!

what happened to ur friend is not a problem of firmware , its a baseband chip got fried , and thats what will happen to ur uncles in case his 3Gs is carries the baseband chip, DO NOT DO THAT you'll damage the device PERMENANTLY and NO ONE WILL FIX IT unless you physically change the baseband chip which is a bit over ur level

Uncheck install cydia
Ckeck install iPad baseband

I don't think that will fix it unless it was already on ipad bb "older chip" working fine and got nulled by the update, otherwise u have made urself a ridiculously awesome paper weight ！(◎_◎

Though worth mentioning that i've came across a way that is said to fix the null bb issue but you'll need some solder, iron, steady hands and very high level of experience!

The reason lots are advising u to downgrade to 4.1 is that apple's servers are mysteriously signing shsh blobs for this particular ios god knows y! To be sure though use redsn0w or tiny umbrella to query the servers for yours

Sometimes the baseband is just null for no reason and is solved by a restore (or in 6.15.00 case a reflash)
It has happened to my iPhone 4 in the past
