Apple Tv 2 or 3?

Hi my wife will be getting my apple tv for my birthfday next month i was going to just get the newest one atv 3 but after looking about and knowing that pod2gs jailbreak is not going to work on it i am in two mines about it,

would i be better off getting atv 2 so that i can jailbreak it right away or is it worth getting apv 3 and waiting/hoping a jailbreak comes out soon?

I wouldn't buy a 3. get the 2 and jailbreak it right away, the latest jailbreak is coming out this week so don't delay. Oh and you font colour makes it nearly impossible to read your post.

Well lets think about this.

Do you want to watch pirate movies and tv shows? ATV2
Do you want to surf the web from your tv? ATV2
Do you want to stream any content from your PC to AppleTV? ATV2
Do you want to watch HD content bought from Apple on your HDTV? ATV3
Do you want to ONLY use stock features? Netflix, MLB, HULU, etc? ATV3

Remember, anything you can do on the ATV3, you can still do on the ATV2. Its going to be 1080p and 720p respectively. I like to use XBMC to stream downloaded movies to my TV in the other room. I would vote to buy an ATV2. The jailbreak for ATV3 will probably be a lot longer than you expect.

Unofficial channels: eBay, Craigslist, Facebook marketplace, ads, specialty shops, friends, friends of friends, etc. It might take some work but there should still be plenty around if you look in the right places. Not sure if the price would be any different. I wouldn't pay more than $100 for an unused model.

Second hand the second gen TV sells for much more than the new one

You can buy a new ATV3 in the UK for about £75-80

The ATV2 on eBay selling from £120-220 seen a few asking £500

You are right they are available out there, but you just have to look. Another option is to try small local electronics stores that did not sell out their old inventory.

That is great that you can find them cheap on your side of the pond but on this side of the pond prices are different

by the time you add international shipping and possibly duty for importing and wait a few weeks for it it clear customs

You might as well just pay the 120 get it next day :-)

You can do a shit load of good things with a jailbroken ATV

Without the jailbreak is is a piece of junk IMO

Apple tv 2 cost an arm and a leg right now.. If possible just get the 3 and wait for the jailbreak. There is no reason to pay over MSRP for this device.

It's looking like its going to be a lot longer than anyone expects. Every other A5 device is going to be jail broken except the ATV3. They don't have any way to inject the jailbreak at the moment.

yea, it's gonna take awhile for the ATV 3 to have a jailbreak but if the ATV 2 is going between $120 - $200 then it's probably best to look for an alternate device. I just think it's crazy that the prices are so high when the original price was $99

As pointed out in earlier postings prices in the USA are cheaper than in Europe

I am sure that if you shop around you can find cheaper price

I am personally waiting for the jailbreak to drop before I pick up the ATV3

I am sure there will be a flood of devices for sale when no jailbreak is available

Thanks for all the advice from everyone I can get an atv2 for £85 from a shop in town I do really want to be able to jaillbreak it str8 away just had to wait ages for me to be able to jailbreak my iPad wasn't good,

The old one is worth more because it is jailbreak for life

You will allways have a jailbreak for this device on the latest firmware
