iOS5.1.1 slide to unlock freeze with iPod Touch 4G

From reading the forum, it appears that iOS5.1.1 jailbreak works for some with iPod Touch 4g. Unfortunate to say, I am not so lucky. Disabling all MobileSubstrate components did not improve the lag. I even tried the tethered jb, then performed the Rocky Racoon 5.1.1 deb installation but to no relief (I always start device as new after applying the iOS and jb). I had a similar problem of screen freeze after "Slide to Unlock" as reported in this thread:
iPod Touch 4G White - iOS5 Unlock Lag - SiNfuL iPhone

I did a bit more searching on the web, saw this thread on the Apple Support Community forum reporting the similar problem:
ios 5 make my ipod 4g slow: Apple Support Communities

The 4-5 seconds freeze after "Slide to Unlock", and general applications slow response had gotten to me after 3 days of using the jailbroken iPT4. One thing I noticed that whenever the iPod Touch 4G is connected to the computer, I do not see any of the freezing.

After almost bricking the device (the dreaded kernal panic message appeared), I have rolled back to iOS4.3.3 (may even downgrade back to 4.2.1, which is the iOS I "upgraded" from). I am hoping that the horrible lag is gone.

If anyone had figured out a way to get rid of the freeze after "Slide to Unlock", I would love to hear from you. Otherwise, I guess my iPT4 is at its final iOS version of 4.3.3.

Cydia apps installed with IOS5.1.1:
AppSync 5.0+
AppCake+
AppLinks
AptBackup
BatteryInfo for Notification

Browser Changer SBSettings
Chronus
Clean Up

FolderEnhancer (1.6.0.2-1)
Gridlock
iAdKiller (with or without)
iFile (1.7.0-1)
Infinidock (1.8.4-1)
iSHSHit
MobileTerminal (New)
MxTube
NoCyfresh i4
OpenSSH
OfflineMap
Remove Background
Remove Background SBSetting
SBSettings
SBSetting VPN Toggle
SysInfoPlus
WhatsPad

Not sure but I had to remove appCake after upgrading to 5.1.1
Everything seems smooth now.

I have the same problem as you, my main issue is the 5 secs freeze after slide to unlock, i searched and searched all over the net, and no one has seemed to figure out or what is the cause of the problem.

I could recommed installing the unfold app from cydia, it totally eliminates the freeze after slide to unlock, but this has a side effect on the ipod touch, battery drains too quickly, apps crash, etc etc

No sure I want to say that I am glad that not being the only one encountering the issue, as I don't really wish this pain on anyone else. I still find that it is strange that the issue only rears its ugly head after unplugging from the USB cable. Could it be possibly power related to the IPT4G?

Stealth: I have not tried removing the AppCake+. Oh well, too late already for me. I do not feel like doing another jail break...I have already wasted too many hours in the past few days on jail breaking and reinstalling all the apps and tweaks.

Bojo: Good to hear that there is a possible solution by using Unfold app. However, as you have pointed out, battery is going to be even worse of an issue. (How about another unlocking app called PaperLock? Perhaps it is less buggy than Unfold?) I guess I am not regretting the decision to revert back to iOS4.x. Nevertheless, I am already missing the Notification panel from iOS5.

Possibly not enough RAM to run all of your cydia apps. check sbsettings and the amount of free ram that you have left.

Unfortunately, no news. One thing I should have checked was whether the lag also affect non-jailbroken iPod Touch 4G.

Since it is getting onto your nerves (it did with me), revert back to iOS4.x will be your only solution, unless you did not have the blob from previous iOS.

Good luck.

I used both redsnow 0.9.12b1 and 0.9.12b2 and the freeze still happens...
Lucky you i guess

hi to all, i'm new to this forum. i had this lagging problem in my ipod 4g running ios 5.1.1 (jailbroken) too and i searched the entire web for a solution. but there is none and it seems apple sucked in here!
i think i found a way to remove the f**ing lags. i just disabled the camera button in the lock screen via springtomize 2 (a cydia tweek) and the lagg is gone! try this and feedback the results!

Great Regards...

I get the few seconds lag, and I have found the ultimate 100% working fix for it, JUST IGNORE IT, in the grand scale of life is it really such a hardship to have to wait a couple of seconds to slide a button on a mobile device?

i have the same problem, it only happens sometimes though, like2 or 3 times a day. but when im not connected to wifi it is fine. anyway the only solution i got to this is the unfold app from cydia. but i do not use this as it draings battery and would prefferr to normal lock screen.

any other solutions??

Hey guys, I've been having the same issue with my jailbroken iPod Touch 4g running ios 5.1.1, ever since I jailbroke it. I TRIED EVERYTHING. I'm 99 % sure it's a jailbreak issue because before jailbreaking it never happened. I tried jailbreaking with absinthe, redsnow and snowbreeze (all successful) but the freeze after unlock happened every time, even if I uninstalled every tweak including MobileSubstrate.

I started looking on the web about this and I came to the conclusion that this happens because when you lock your ipod, after a few minutes it goes into sleep and when you unlock it doesn't "wake up" well and thus the stupid springboard freezes for a few seconds which can be incredibly frustrating.

So I was looking for a way so that the ipod would not sleep when locked and I found "PreventSleep" from BigBoss's repo in Cydia, which, well the name says it, prevents your ipod from sleeping, maintaining wifi on too, (even though it's locked and the screen is off like it should). I don't know if it uses more battery but ever since I installed the tweak and kept it on, the freeze after unlock lag hasn't happened again! Once you install the tweak, you can activate it via SBSettings toggles or activator. Hope it works for you too!
