Will Unlocking iPhone get att to check for my data plan
i have used the search button and could not find a story on my problem.
I bought an iphone 4 last year and activated it using SAM since I do not have a data plan and currently dont plan on using one. I disabled internet on my phone number so i couldnt use internet on my phone i had before my iphone. So my iphone could not use internet so att will not suspect i am using an iphone. So this method worked for me for about 6 months or more. a couple days ago, att somehow found out and texted me saying they will apply a data plan to me. i will call them up later to say that i accidentally put my SIM into a friends iphone to make an important call or something. to my knowledge i know unlocking will allow an iphone to work with any other carrier and not be monitored by att anymore. my question is if i unlock my iphone 4 and still use att as my carrier will att still check my IMEI and apply a data plan to my phone?
Yes. It has nothing to do with being unlocked or whether your internet is disabled or not. The system automatically determines what phone you have your sim in thanks to the imei number. You might get away with it for months or it could pick it up in a couple days, just depends on the system sweeps. Once the system sees you have your sim in the smartphone it will put the $30 3gb data plan on and text you.

By the way...why bothering buying an iPhone (or any smartphone, for that matter) if you don't plan on using data? Isn't that what a smartphone is all about?
I like using the iphone. It has a bunch of other features that other phones dont have. Plus im normally around wifi more than when i would need the 3g. But thanks for clearifying
