unable to downgrade to 3.1.3?

So I have been using 4.2.1 on my 3G and I have recently brought a 4S. Now I just want to use my 3G as a media player/wifi/ipod touch. So I decided to downgrade my phone down to 3.1.3.

Sadly, it gives me a downgrade (Error 1015) error. I have my host file pointed to cydia and used tinyumbella (tired it with TSS server also). From what I can remember, apple didn't start signing the 3G till 4.x.

So is am I missing anything? I know since I'm on a 3G ifaith won't work for me...

Yeah, the best firmware for a 3G is 3.1.3...iOS4 runs like shit and lags it even more. Also, like rockstar said, just use TU to kick it out of recovery. You're getting that error because of the baseband, but the downgrade was still successful.

So i must say it ,since i really think you guys dont have an iphone 3g and just repeating stuff you read here. Unlike you (iam just claiming this correct me if iam wrong) i own stillmy first Idevice an iphone 3g with bootloader 5.08 and officially unlocked.

You guys are right by saying that an 4.2.1 runs badly on the 3g.But i need to wonder if you guys ever read my suggestions in other threads where i said that there is still the whitdoor option ,that has also ios 4 based customs to offer, that allow it to have an slightly slower ios 4 based firmware and the plus that your are able to use cydia and appstore apps that are need ios 4 .

I repeat a 3.xx based custom whited00r will run faster.

But the compatibility suuuuuuuuuuuuxxxxxxx .

Any 3.xx firmware is pointless and many people are only upgrading for app compatibility, since many stuff isnt supported on the 3.xx firmware.

So isnt it smarter and miore useful to point people on the whitd00r ios 4 based firmware and help people that want app compatibility in first place to solve this issue instead if or then repeating always the same crab about the 4.xx performance on the 3g ? Parrot style.

Iam partially sick of it reading this over and over like iam sick off people that claim to store the shsh blobs on non new bootrom devices is necessary..

I would say those suggestions that you made are only useful for people that want a fast but almost useless iphone 3g, from that point of view you can get yourself also a nokia 3210 or something ,since they are also only good for making a call .

Please link people that want a faster ios 4 based firmware compared to apples stock firmware to this thread :

iOS4 Custom Firmware for iPhone 3G iOS4 Based

For all others are your suggestions very good .But we need to give all options that are available to asking persons . Agreed ?

I have had an iPhone 3G and I have an iPhone 2g
I can say the only time I have been happy with it was on a 3.x.x firmware base

I understand yes you give up A LOT by staying on 3.x.x however in my view the sacrifice is worth it, its the curse you get by staying on a really old device.

There is three real choices
Slow as hell 4.0 (30ish mb of RAM with nothing running the usual)
- RAM levels after deleting 15ish daemons
Speed but incompatibility issues on 3.1.3 (50-60 mb of RAM the usual)
- RAM levels after removing 10ish daemons

Or lastly get a new device!

I admit I did leave out a lot there so let me be helpful
To speed up your device I would strongly suggest to remove daemons (regradless 3.x.x or 4.x.x)
You do not need SHSH blobs for the iPhone 2G/3G or iPod touch 1G/2G (old bootrom)
I have found iReb to bypass most issues when it comes to custom restores

I hope this is more helpful
If I have helped please press the little thanks button in the right hand corner

I still own my 3G and like cooldayr said, only time I was content was while running 3.1.3. I've used whited00r and tried all the other tweaks to disable unneeded shit, but still didn't help much. 3.1.3 is the one and only best solution to a useable 3G, in my opinion.

Those who own and actually use a 3G are more than likely not worried about app compatibility. The 3G is obsolete and no longer supported, so regardless if you use iOS4, in a few months none of that will matter since just about every app will be for iOS5 and above. There's still quite a few apps that have 3.1.3 support, granted they don't offer the same new features...but like I said, people who are actually using the 3G as their main device are most likely not worried about that. If they were, they would just get the i4 or 4S, or even the 3GS, which is free.

Agreed, but lets not forget, it was his decision to use 3.1.3 and he was fine with that, since he's only using it as a glorified iPod now. His only question was about the error he got while downgrading

Trying to find an answer to the OP. I am also getting a 1015 error trying to restore a 3G 4.2.1 to 3.1.3. I am using pwned Dfu mode of of course.

It will only be used to play music/video through the dock port. That is of I can get one of the players such as vlc or xbmc on that version. If not I will just convert the files ( yuck) and play with the IOS video player.

Either way I need to get around the 1015. It seems like it only a few seconds away from completing the restore when it trips this error.

Thanks in advance.

No need for old iTunes or old tiny umbrella or shsh blobs
I just restored to whitedoor iOS 5 3.1.3 based a few weeks a go
(spare 3g) I downloaded directly from whitedoor site
Used redsnow for pwnd dfu
And I can't remember if I needed to but I I did I would have used redsnow to exit recovery

Like karma said if your using a 3G I think 3.1.3 is the best fw
Well for me anyway because all it has I do is make calls text music mail and Internet
All work well on 3G iOS 3.1.3
