Solved! - Installous 5 refuses to install on iPhone 3GS (not a n00b)
Ok so I've been trying to install Installous 5 on my iPhone 3GS for the last several hours and keep ending up at the same place.
The Installous icon has changed...according to Cydia Installous 5 is installed. BUT....when I launch "Installous 5" I get the Installous 4 screen with the news about the update, Credits and Thanks, FAQ etc.
I've searched forums for info and followed all the solution FAQs that I could find. I finally gave up trying to install it through Cydia and downloaded the .deb file and installed as per instructions in the "UPDATE"...thread
Everything seemed to go fine and when I rebooted and opened Installous...it's still bloody Installous 4 even though Cydia tells me 5 is installed.
I've done everything I can and am hoping somebody here can point in the direction of a solution. Thanks!
iOS 5.1.1 Jailbroken and unlocked with redsn0w and ultrasn0w

Thanks for the tips. I did delete Installous 4 and related resources, except when reinstalling the dependent resources I didn't reboot the device between each install Maybe I'll try that next. I was hoping the .deb method would take care of the issue but alas....
Incidentally, I'm having the exact same problem with my 3rd gen 32gig iPod touch (5.0.1). Hmm...

I had no problem installing Installous 5, all I had to do was un-install (not delete) the 4. I'm trying to think what could be the problem for you. Hmmm......

The strange thing is that when I look in Cydia it shows Installous 5 as being installed, but when I open Installous it is always the old 4 no matter what I seem to do.
And it's strange that both my iPhone 3GS (5.1.1) and my iPod touch (5.0.1) exhibit the same problem. Could an app or a utility that is installed on both devices be the cause? I get no error messages, no red script when installing...this is driving me nuts.
What's the difference between deleting and uninstalling, btw? The options I have when in Modify (Installous) are Reinstall and Remove. Thanks for your input...every bit helps.

I deleted everything in the folder, except for Downloads, uninstalled AdBlocker and removed associated files...removed Installous 5. Installed Installous 5, rebooted.
So now when I click on the Installous icon in Springboard everything seems okay but when I tap Home I get a mostly blank page with the 'Installous' graphic at the top (no number beside it) and below is says, in plain text, 'Home' and below that 'This feature currently unavailable.' Browse, Search, Downloads etc. do what they are supposed to do.
In Settings-->About it says Installous 5.0.2-2 So I think some progress has been made.
Thanks and keep the tips coming!

It's a weird issue and not very common it seems. It's not a huge, huge deal since I can still download and install apps and I probably wouldn't use the torrent feature much but it is annoying. My Installous icon changed but in Cydia it tells me 5 is installed...but when I open the app on springboard it's still Installous 4.
Like I mentioned above I even downladed the .deb file and installed with iFile...same issue. I've spent hours trying various methods of installing 5 and nothing seems to work and nobody seems to have a clue what's going on.

What I did was installed installous 5 (without uninstalling installous 4), then
after it was still installous 4 with the installous 5 icon, I went back to cydia and reinstalled
installous 5.. Worked for me.

Here is what I did. I was having the same problems.
I downloaded the DEB file from here.
I uninstalled the Installous 4
I transferred the Deb File to the Iphone via Ifunbox
Opened Iphone, then opened ifile, then installed file via Ifile.
Rebooted phone and it worked.
Not sure if this helped but I was having problems too and this worked for me.
