iPod touch 3rd Gen. on 4.2.1

I have an iPod touch 3rd gen that runs on 4.2.1 , iTunes says my iOS is up to date , does this mean I can not update to a custom 5.1.1 IPSW & jailbreak with Redsnow ?

You probably have an 8GB iPod Touch, right? Because there never really was a 3rd generation 8GB iPod Touch; they just continued to sell 2nd gen 8GB units alongside their 3rd generation units with larger memory capacity. Crazy, I know.

You must have an iPod 2nd Gen as the iPod 3rd Gen is compatible with iOs 5.1.1

the model is MC086LL , 8GB , I thought this is a 3rd gen. ? Anyway , if it's a 2nd gen then I'm out of luck to update to 5.1.1 ?
