My post was a comparative of the hardware upgrades - all of which could have been put into a 3GS architecture had 3GS been made with modularity.

If the 3GS had been made with modularity you would have paid a lot more than buying an iPhone 4S. Just think about what you are saying there for a minute.
Unless you are really good with replacing parts and your upgraded parts are free you are not making much sense.
I have read some of your posts and you look like a clever guy.
I will just point out a few things why what you are saying, just isn't possible.
If all the parts in the 3GS were upgradeable and to make it simple solderless, everything would have to either be by slots or cables. The final product would be as thick as hell, if it was like that. Where would you put the front facing camera? Drill a hole? All the other parts, including antennas for LTE or faster HSDPA would need to be better. How would you imagine replacing the CPU or the main board.
I'm not saying it's impossible, it might be possible in the future. Just not 4 years ago, when mobile phones were all based on one block for the motherboard and the only thing that was possible to upgrade was the memory card.
Another thing is, there are limits to what the bus can achieve at any given time. As an example, when the 3GS came out AGP was the norm for a graphics port on a PC. Now we have PCI Express which is much quicker. Having a phone like the 3GS with the graphics chip of the 4S is not enough, it would be throttled by the bus speed and you could put the best mobile graphics adapter of today, it would only work as fast as the bus supported. Then you would need to buy the upgraded motherboard lol
What about the screen, I bet you the bandwidth for the retina display would not work with the graphics port of a 3GS. Not enough juice.
This would make buying a 4S a lot cheaper!
I understand what you mean, It would be nice if it was like that. It would give people the option to stay with the old case and just replace the components as they see fit.
In the computer world it works, in the phone world I think it would be more expensive. I might be wrong.
