IOS5 on 3GS, SLUGGISH!
I've been running IOS5.0.1 for a couple of months now, and I'm finally bothered to make a thread about how slow it is since upgrading from IOS4 (which I had 0 lag issues).
I've done some googling and found that some people have been saying that IOS5 runs really well for them. ATM, I find there is a slight lag when I just unlock the phone from the slider. Switch the screen from the main screen to the search screen, and the one that annoys me the most is the music app! When switching songs it lags like hell, the artwork cuts to the lock screen artwork then the new one.
Is it just me? Others seem to be running IOS5 on 3gs perfectly fine.

That is very true, it was a bit laggy until I installed that. Smooth sailing from that point on.

I don't have much really, I do have winterboard, I've tried it without winterboard, still quite sluggish, I have removed some launchdaemons too. I think I've tried barrel, it seemed pretty unnatural and I wasn't THAT concerned about the screen scroll time since I tend to put everything on one page. My main concern is actually just the music app, the scrolling through songs on lock that's very slow, that bugs me the most. I'll give faceclockup a go, but it is good to know 5.0.1 for 3gs is slow in general, and it's not just me.

I still have mine and will not be eligible for upgrade for a few months. There are quite a few threads on tweaking if you want to check. I have done all of that and tweaked my own version of virtual memory for my phone. Check the threads, everything you need is there.

I have lag issues as well after the upgrade.
If the phone is in standby, hitting the home button to wake it up there is usually a second and a half delay before the screen lights up.
Also, when using the spyglass to copy and paste - the first time I attempt to do it in an application there's usually a 2-3 second delay before the prompts appear. The spyglass will show up but the phone stalls out for awhile.
Finally, when typing in text boxes using Safari, the keyboard is less responsive. Letters hang or back spacing will hang and then suddenly rush through like a dam being broken.
Overall, if it weren't necessary for Icloud and some of the newer apps I would have stayed with 4.2. 3GS seems to be pushed to its performance envelope with 5.0. I am not going to bother upgrading to 5.1 unless someone can assure me the performance problems are resolved for 3GS.

My 3GS is sluggish as well... I used an old Cydia package to RemoveLaunchDaemons and its now a little faster. Removed some of the startup files and other plists...

The Music app is just shit. Try playing a song, lock the device and try to unlock again, it'll take ages lol. For the Music App, just wait for iOS 6 (or use the beta, I do and the music app is as fast as back in iOS 3.

My 3gs didn't feel really smooth as it should on 5.1.1
so i used the following tweaks:
Springtomize 2 (Cracked, from Sinfuliphone repo)
SBSettings ( BigBoss Repo )
Multicleaner ( Insanelyi Repo )
FakeClockUp ( Insanelyi Repo )
NoNewsIsGoodNews
Daemon Tools ( Insanelyi Repo )
Settings:
Springtomize 2:
Dock - Hide reflections
Lock - No camera button
Lock - Always show battery
Lock - Adjusted slide line
Pages - Disable Spotlight
SBSettings:
SB Settings Options - 24h format
Disable dropdown Window
Hide icons - Hidden a few
System Options - Delete carrier name
Multicleaner:
Activatior triggers - To my own likings
Global settings - Quit all apps ( Triple tap home button )
Added a few apps i always use, so that will always remain on. (ie: Whatsapp, Messaging )
FakeClockUp:
Animation Speed - x1.4
This works really well for me, system is noticable fast(er) and the multitasking is also (way) better imho.
Since i have the Multicleaner cydia app my battery life has also improved!
I hope i helped with this..
Greetings,
Kevin
