Alienware what do you guys think?

Hey guys basically I brought a Alienware M14 R2 without doing my research, yeah stupid I know but never thought it was needed as all my friends highly recommended them for the reliability and performance.

Anyways as I been waiting for the damn thing to be dispatched I been looking around the net and found that these laptops have a common problem of the motherboard failing, some say it was only a bad patch, some confusing forums makes me think that it was the older R1 models with the issue and some say it was only a problem with the units that were ordered during the periods of November - December.

What do you guys think?

Does anyone own one?

Surely if the problem has been around in the last model it should be fixed with the new r2 version?

Has dell turned a blind eye to the problem?

Should I cancel my order while I can?

Any input would be appreciated if not thanks for reading

Not sure but I recently bought a MSi GT780DXR-447US: MSI Notebook Official Website

But I bought it with 32gb ram and 240gb ssd and 700gb hd and I turned raid 0 off because it sucks.

Its a beasty laptop, I play bf3, gta iv, ect all on max.

I bought mine off of powernotebooks.com

0% lag, it's in my sig on the left.

Alienware M14 R2 doesn't look bad IMO I'm not sure though I've never owned an Alienware. My one buddy has one he loved it, until he got a virus he don't know how to fix it I guess

Edit: His is the oldsih Alienware Area51 m5500

Dont get me wrong for the size of it the specs are amazing this is the only alienware I can find with the problem others seem fine. Surely a virus scan can fix your friends lappy if not a reinstall of the os maybe?

Here's my input on this situation. Notebooks are always a tricky business. With desktops you can make your own relatively easy, saving you hundreds if not thousands of dollars. However notebooks are extremely hard to put together on your own. You'd end up buying cheap ass parts from china and messing up the whole thing. That's why if it is your primary gaming platform, I would recommend a full on desktop. However if you need the mobility, alienware is imo an overpriced solution. The msi displayed above is very good. There are also amazing asus notebooks out there and even the razer switchblade if you don't bind going deep into your pockets. But alienware has a name behind it and that means customer support. If you do get a faulty device I'm almost certain they will replace it. Yes it is a hassle but shit happens. Hope I helped.

Hey thanks for posting the thing is the size of the laptop really matters tried a desktop couldnt stand it to be honest am not a heavy pc gamer got a xbox n ps3 for that, your right about the price tho lol feels like am just paying for a brand and customer support but puting those aside I dont have a problem its just the fact this particular model has a problem I just dont know if it was the older r1 model or both am not made of money lol have to save for some time be4 spending so dont wanna mess it up. Allways wanted a alienware purely for the looks to be honest lol sad i know but its allways good to have that extra power for games like wow. Conquer online, starcraft etc.

alienware technology: to sum it up:

any alienware with over 6gb RAM and 500GB HDD is good enough. mostly DELL makes these computers so you can custom build one on their website.

Alienware Laptops

as for the motherboard failing, its because people abuse their laptops to the max and tries to blame either the computer or company. yes it may have some faults but what computer doesnt.

If it's just for average browsing you could've got a macbook or an ultrabook.

I wouldn't worry about it at all. People told me not to buy an acer netbook because they are shit but I've had mine for 3 years now and it runs fine and is fast for a netbook.

I'm typing on my M14x R1 right now . I love it, and have never had any problems with it what so ever. I can play almost all games on high/max settings, and I got a lower end M14x. I doubt you will have an issue with the motherboard, but if you do just send it back, they should hook you up with a new one.
