uTorrent Crashes My Computer

Alright, so here's the issue. My computer has had a history of issues and I'm getting a new one soon, but for now I need my torrents for LEGAL purposes of course . Anyways I was downloading something and it downloaded completely fine. A few minutes later my computer crashed (windows stop error screen). When I tried to reboot it, it crashed before starting up. I ran a system restore that said it wouldn't delete personal information but it would delete previously installed programs in order to restore the computer to a state in which it was working normally. Which program was removed? uTorrent. Again, my computer was running perfectly fine until I had uTorrent running. Could it be a memory problem (it's an old pc so it only has 2gb of RAM) or possibly something else? Would appreciate any help.

Specs:
Computer: HP Pavillion
CPU: Intel Pentium 3ghz Dual Core
RAM: 2gb
Local Disk HDD: 224gb (only 45gb used can this be right?)
Recovery Drive: 8.68 GB (370 mb free)
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

What was the error on the windows stop (blue screen of death)? While starting up how did it crash? A blue screen? If so what's that error too? I have a netbook with 1.5gb ram and torrent like a beast on it so it's not that. Maybe your ram is dieing or loose or plugged in wrong. You need to state the error message it gives you, it's important.

Well it is ddr2 so I wouldn't be surprised if it was dieing. And the errors are always different for some odd reason.

run a CHKDSK on your HDD
check for rootkits (use COMBOFIX)
uninstall utorrent (along with registry keys and left over folders in appfolder - use REVO or ccleaner)

reinstall utorrent from the actual website and you should be fine.

The volume is in use with another process so im checking it when it restarts, i am currently installing photoshop

No not today I'm going to try to defrag it for now and see if that works, then run a chkdsk

Ran a chkdsk gunna use multipazz's recommended program next, if problems proceed, i'll invest in a mac.

ok next thing is the process's,

how many process's are running in your task manager?

windows xp's safe process checklist is around 20-40
windows vista and 7 is 44-60


anything above 65 process's will crash your system. you can disable which ones by using tune up utilities, i have the lastest version here > AdF.ly - shrink your URLs and get paid!


to see your systems secs and imprtant info you can use a freeware program called SIW which i have here > AdF.ly - shrink your URLs and get paid!

what type of virus protection are you using?
is your windows up to date via windows update?

Well my computer hasn't crashed yet after a defrag and a chkdsk and I downloaded a torrent so I think that did the trick, but I'm using avast free edition and my windows is up to date

Free virus scanners (exspecially the mainstream ones) are crap, but since I was doing some testing with avast this week I can provide you with avast Internet security 7 with a bunch of keys lol that's up to you. Or if your like me I don't use anti virus just Mbam.

I'm glad you got your pc straight and those defrag and chkdsk worked. Usually it does

actually yes i do and a working patch, tested by me and my community of 500+ people.

it just crashed again, some 0x1 random number and letter combo reason for crashing. Didn't stay up for very long so I couldn't take a picture, but im gunna burn pc check onto a disk and see if using that will fix everything.

PC chech won't fix anything

it will test your hardware

so you know if you have a faulty hardware

if PC check pass all test then you have a software problem
