I haven't try, but it should. How about you testing and inform us later. And if there is another IconSupportState-98z3absw.plist file, it is because IconSupport by chpwn was installed. Backup this file and rename this file to match the file name in your friend's device and transfer it over. I hope you're sensible to backup all files.

There was actually an old thread How to: Backup SB Icon layout with Infiniboard Infinidock (and IconSupport.dylib) - SiNfuL iPhone on this topic "IconSupportState-98z3absw.plist".

And if you use PkgBackup, it does backup those plist files in this "/private/var/mobile/Library/SpringBoard/" directory, look at the SpringBoard file section under option.

[U]Hi
Thanks all for ur suggestions... However I am still facing problem.
Toms method of saving plist is not working.
How often the file overwrites ?
I checked and last file updation was sometimes in May.
Also when springtomize saves icon state it's the same old file with old datq
I tried respring/reboot/shutdown startup etc.
But still iconstate.plist file is not changing. It's the same old file.
I wonder how it's possible.
I need to try pkgbackup and backboard now
I Hv iPhone 4 os 4.1
Any other help pls. It's really frustrating and happening often now
Thanks

The iconstate.plist file should overwrite only when you change your springboard layout. So the same date is SUPPOSED to stay unless you rearrange your icons. Using Springtomize or PKGBackup or Backboard or any other method to back up your icon state saves a copy of the file to SOMEWHERE ELSE so that you can use it to restore your icons to their previous state if you want to.
I know I ramble on sometimes, but if you glean anything at all useful or helpful out of my ramblings, please click the Thanks button. >>>v

I agree with Mirivedan
Backboard is the best for me.
I use a lot of themes and i frequently change the icon layout. Backboard allows you to create a name and then save your current layout (icon layout, current theme enabled) etc.
You can easily restore to any theme you saved in Backboard
You can get it for free in Cydia

Icon4

New to SiNful iPhone. You all seem to have the best of the 'unapproved' repos that I've added so far. I've tried a handful of the frowned upon repos and SiNful is the best of them. Anyway, I'm in this particular thread because I happened across it via a Google search. I searched for "cydia save icon layout" because every time I install/uninstall something via Cydia and it asks me to respring, my icons get rearranged. This is very annoying. I keep thinking that surely someone has written a damn app or something that will back up the state file and restore it automagically or something but I haven't found anything. What I have found in regards to this thread is that Backboard does not work reliably on ios 5 apparently. I read that somewhere else, and then someone else said that it works, so I tried it. It saved my first "theme", but since then, it won't save anything. I hit the + symbol, type the name, click save, and nothing shows up. So I don't think Backboard is viable. Also, in this thread, I've seen reference to IconState.plist. This is not the correct file. On my ios 5.1.1 iPod touch 3g, it's IconSupportState.plist in the same directory /var/mobile/Library/SpringBoard. You will notice that file updates the modified time every time you respring whereas IconState.plist doesn't. Copying IconSupportState.plist to another directory and then copying it back after my icons get works fine. I just wish there was a tweak that would auto do it or something. If this is all old news, my apologies. I just wanted to update this in case anyone else stumbles across it via Google.

Thanks everyone for sharing your insights. I am currently going through an iOS FW Update so while googling I found this thread and the valuable inputs. I will try out these suggestions and report back. I hope they work.
