iphone 2g is about to go out the window. help!

i gave my daughter an old 2g that had been collecting dust a year ago or more. i previously unlocked it (i dont remember what i used, it was a while ago) & she was able to use it on tmobile & send & receive pics in texts. then one day the camera icon & photos disappeared along with the ability to send or receive pics in texts. i have looked all over to find something to get the mms option back, but none of it is working. i just restored it with the official 3.1.3 from itunes & then used redsn0w 0.3.9 to jailbreak/unlock it again. the problem is, its installing a version of cydia thats outdated & i have no sources or packages at all in it & cant add any either. so i tried a million other things & finally used "jailbreakme" & it installed a newer cydia & im able to get updates. now im getting errors when trying to update cydia. i have no clue wtf is going on, but this phone is about to get smashed soon.

all i want to do is give her the mms option again. any help would be appreciated.

again, iphone 2g on ios 3.1.3

Have you installed ultrasnow from cydia yet?
What errors are you getting from cydia?

First off, why are you using redsn0w 0.3.9? Why not use the latest version (0.9.14b1 at this moment)? That way, the latest version of Cydia will be installed and you're less likely to run into any of those problems.

Also, not sure what you mean by using redsn0w to unlock it last time I checked, redsn0w only jailbreaks iDevices. For unlocking, you will have to open Cydia and search for the "ultrasn0w" package.

ahh maybe because the latest redsnow doesn't support 3xx firmwares

op

check this out whited00r
i run the whit00r 5 on my 3g and it works
people will say ios 3 fw sucks because it cant handle new apps
well I say if you want to play apps buy a 4s if you want to make calls and text the old 2g/3g is absolutely fine on 3xx fw

What you talking about? redsn0w has always supported jailbreaking every iOS firmware from the past up till the latest; they've just been adding more and more support with every release. Where do you get your facts from?

OP

Never mind that part

Learnt something new today

@ mental
In that case, here's a CFW created with the latest version of sn0wbreeze (v2.9.6 at this moment), includes the permanent unlock and the current latest version of Cydia (v1.1.6 at this moment).

Just put the iPhone 2G in pwned dfu mode using iREB, open iTunes and Shift+Restore to the CFW. Following that, connect to a Wi-Fi network, open cydia (let it finish refreshing then install any updates that show up), add the SiNful iPhone Repo source and install the "MMS & Tethering Settings" package (ensure to follow the instructions stated in the package description).

ok, guys... i installed everything as suggested & followed all instructions exactly & all im getting in settings/general/network/cellular data network/ is "cellular data" with the apn epc.tmobile.com. username & password are blank, then under that is "reset settings". ive reset everything as instructed & all that, but i dont have anything that says "mms" in my cellular data. ive uninstalled & reinstalled the "mms & tethering settings" package probably 7 or 8 times. thoughts?

You're not meant to tap "Reset Settings" at that page, you're suppose to go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings

Consider repeating the installation once more (as there's a likelyhood of necessary details being deleted when you tapped "Reset Settings") and do as the instructions state.

Hmm, not sure what's going on, try following SiNfulSS' instructions here and see what pops up

Go into the network settings. It should be settings> general>network>Cellular data network. then on the bottom there is a reset.

Then you will be ok.

fyi:
1: when a 2g is unlocked it is always unlocked even if you restore.
2: if you have a att sim use that to bypass the activation screen.
3: I use the jailbreakme.com site from safari on all 3.1.3 firmwares.

I LOVE THIS SITE!!!! HIT THANKS IF I HELPED!!!

You need to try and put the phone in DFU mode. Then you may be able to restore the device assuming it isn't a hardware issue.
If I helped you, hit the thanks button please.

again, iphone 2g on ios 3.1.3

Use the latest Snowbreeze (2.9.7) to build a custom firmware and shift/restore to install via the latest iTunes, Snowbreeze will unlock/Hacktivate the phone to, it just plain works, plenty of info out there on how to use it download here iH8sn0w.com Jailbroke the wifes 2g last night went without a hitch, use iTools to back up anything you want to keep.
