Edit APNs/Get MMS and data working on straight talk without a jailbreak...

Thanks archangelmk--I appreciate the response. But please clarifiy something for me, can I simply alter the apn's that are changed in the override file and save that or do I need the entire plist file to make the changes.

the apns are changed in their own file ( the preferences plist ) whereas the PList is for your MMS is the plist file, I have never got mms to work without the plist.

so does this method work without downloading the apn profile from unlockit.co.nz? i am using the apn profile and only have the wap.cingular on one line. im just wondering if this alternative method than what i found would work better than the way i done it. i was having data issues other day and reloaded the profile and when i did it reset my att.mvno back to wap.cingular. i got it back now but was wondering another way so i dont have go thru all restores again. lol

So I tried the AT&T $50 pay as you go and it didn't work and no I don't have an data package I figure y buy one when the $50 pay as you go has data I was looking for a way around buying the data package any help would be appreciated thanks!

GoPhone will not work with data anymore. Also, you do not need to install the profile, just make another backup, change what needs to be changed and restore again...

I have an iPhone 4S and since I switched to Straight Talk, my MMS does not work and I cannot send/receive pic messages. I am unsure of what to do to get it working without jailbreaking my phone. Thanks!!

make a backup , use the tools suggested on page 1 to edit that backup files , its kinda easy

the override.plist file can be used on every device

the preference.plist must be done for individual device

use a current preference.plist to keep your device in the same state as it is

I am not very good with doing the setting to get this to work so forgive me for being "iPhone illiterate" (lol) but do I have to hook my iphone to a computer to back up the files or can i just do it on my phone? My data works just fine but the MMS does not work at all. I have been told that if you back up your phone in iTunes, everything can be deleted and I don't need anything deleted. If someone can break things down in layman terms for me to understand step by step what to do, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you for responding!!

you can do it either way, however if it is disconnected, you will have to download the plist and open it inside of iFile and copy/paste it over into the one already on your system, as far as the preference plist goes that can be edited on the device itself using ifile, I just find it a lot easier to do this on a computer.

ok so i been using this method for a couple months now. been working great until recently. some reason my data keeps stopping. i open files with ibackupbot and looks like nothing is changed. but incase i go thru the steps again and restore and my data works again but slower than it was. any ideas on this? i have since went back to the apn profile from unlockit.co.nz.

Do not use the unlockit.co.nz profile, this will automatically change your APNs..... The profile also persists through backups...

But I've been using the method instructed here and was working great until a few days ago then started losing my data service but still retained the mms ability. Couldn't figure out what was causing it. That is why I started to use the profile til found a solution. Any suggestions about that

nope,try using signal booster from cydia when you lose your data. all it does is turn airplane mode on and off a few times, but it works and its automated.

i got on the straight talk forums and apparently im not the only one who is having the issue.

For me, every now and then I will lose just my data, but for me turning on airplane mode and forcing it to reconnect to the server works for me, which is why I use signal booster.

that did work. turning on and off airplane mode. it opened the browser and then it didnt respond and then it opened it again. so it worked 2 out of 3 times guess better than nothing.

New to forum, changing the APN string in the plist file worked for MMS and data, but for some reason now my iMessage won't work. When I get into the Messages setting for iMessage it says "Waiting for activation"...anyone else having this? iMessage was working with unlockit.co.nz APN profile, but after removing that and editing the plist file it's giving me the activating message.

Thank you arcangelmk. I'm so grateful. I spent four hours today - nothing else worked. I tried the APN download from unlockit. Finally found your instructions and they work great. I did need to replace the apn all 4 times where it appears in System Configuration/Preferences.Plist (search on "apn").
