Dead iPhone 3GS?

Hey guys..

So I've got a family member's 3GS and I'm lead to believe that it's dead.

I've tried what I can software wise to diagnose it (redsn0w doesn't detect, doesn't go into DFU mode, not detected by computer), but I've got nothing.

And so I'm lead to believe that it's a hardware flaw. I don't know much about what happened, they said that it just "happened", and I know things like this just don't happen. But from what I can see, the screen looks like it has either some dead pixels, or it just looks like it has those lines that will sometimes be left behind on the screen if you force shut down the phone (manually). Water sensors haven't been tripped, sounds like something could be rattling from the inside though.

Any thoughts/ideas? I've been thinking of the battery, but I don't know if the logic board could be out or anything else.

Any constructive criticism is appreciated! Thanks!

Open that bitch up and see what's floating around first of all

If it is a piece o the logic board then it's garbage otherwise figure out what it is or take some pics and post them.

The lines could mean that a connector for the LCD is poorly seated but it's hard to say at this stage.

Screen looks like it has either some dead pixels is called black spot on screen. I think it has no any trustful solution to repair it so you should replace your screen.

Thanks.

Well I cracked it open, (sorry for the late response) looked like it had some sort of water damage even though the sensors didn't go off. Looked like there was some sort of residue all over the heat shields on the logic board. Upon closer inspection of the screen too, there were hairline cracks going ALL OVER the screen.

Just told my family member that they're SOL on it and should just get a new phone
