Samsung will sue Apple for LTE iPhone

Samsung plays offense, will sue Apple if they release an LTE iPhone | Android Community

Just when we thought it was almost over, we realize the party has only just started. New reports today are clearly stating that while Samsung might have lost the battle, in the end they’ll win the war. According to the Korean Times Samsung holds just over 10% of all 4G LTE (long term evolution) patents and is prepared to play some offense of their own in the courtroom.
What we are now hearing is that Samsung is basically saying “We dare you” to release a 4G LTE iPhone — which is rumored to be a part of the next iPhone launch — and once they do Samsung will sue the pants off of them and go into full revenge/attack mode. The iPad currently has LTE, yes, but Samsung has been waiting for a much bigger fish and that is Apple’s bread and butter – the iPhone.

Sadly just this afternoon a story came out regarding Apple and Google themselves having private discussions to end these drawn out and angry patent lawsuits — but it appears that Samsung wants nothing to do with that. Obviously these reports can’t be confirmed at this time but we are hearing some reliable information is at hand regarding this.

This is actually a very interesting development in this entire story. If Apple does launch an LTE iPhone (which is pretty likely) they’ll quickly be rounding up the troops once more and headed to court. Samsung will no doubt seek an immediate product injunction and ban from the US, and probably multiple other countries as their patents are very wide. Now obviously Apple needs to release an iPhone 5 with 4G LTE as that is something consumers are basically demanding these days. If they do they will get sued, and if they don’t then people will jump for the Android LTE options available.

The new iPhone should be announced sometime in mid September so we’ll all know soon enough. Will this ever end?
Please support the devs and purchase your favorite apps, piracy only hurts us as a whole

People who ask for thanks in their sig are fucking lame.

Don't think that will stop Apple from releasing the much anticipated iPhone 5.

Ahhh someone should tell Samsung they only own around 10-12% of the LTE patents.

How bad would they look if Apple worked out a deal with the other patent holders Nokia, Qualcomm and Ericsson and only feature those technologies in the new iPhone?

Even if Samsung does own something critical and Apple comes with good faith to license the technology they can't really make them pay that much above what the other manufacturers already pay so its kinda all hot air on their part.

All those people working for Samsung yet common sense always seems to be somehow in short supply.

And you make this statement based on what? lol

Apple have yet to announce and deliver ANYTHING yet you think its all doom and gloom?

Apple didnt get where they are today by being a follower of technology and ideas.

iOS 6 über-disappointed me with its seemingly lack of major improvements.

They took existing technology and ideas and improved it and/or took it in new directions. (Make it look nice, clean, simple to use, add features that will wow the customer)

I respect their knowing a good idea when they see one, where so many passed it by. I can't stand scroll bars on my old PDAs now.

I'm a bit concerned their heyday is behind them.

Xerox GUI -> Mac
Treo, BB -> iPhone
those music players -> iPod

But I still hope Apple will knock my socks off with iPhone 5 hardware, because the OS 6 update is not that great IMHO.
Palm Treo Pro
Lenovo ThinkPad T400
iOS-less, but still around.
expert all things Palm, ironically

Aww Samgsung is still butthurt...poor guys, need to get over it and come up with their own shit for once. Samsung can sue Apple all they want...there will be no banning of the iPhone in the US...fact. Samsung didn't invent LTE, they just hold bs patents on bs hardware LTE coincides with...means nothing. Moral of the story: Samsung is desperately trying to gain back the $1billion they just lost...but will fail to do so in the end.

If samsung will sue apple with the release of iPhone5 because of its LTE, what should apple do? Samsung owns like 10% of LTE patent. Also with the lack of supplies/parts from other suppliers like LG for the screen? Does this mean there is a delay in releasing iPhone5? Please not!

Very Pathetic what samsung are trying to achieve after the big loss.
all that i see is a furious company who demonstrated again its immature decision : LTE is not a trademark...wake up samsung fuckers and try for the first time in your existence to innovate in the smartphone world.

Well, this was inevitable. The greedy always hungry Applers will find themselves in these endless lawsuits over BS because they started it. Even if Samsung doesn't have solid grounds on a potential LTE battle it will set off other companies to go after Apple for whatever. And this cat and mouse game will bring losses to everyone involved. Today Apple stopped a Samsung's product, tomorrow Samsung will return the "favor". Even if a judge halts iPhone sales temporarily because of LTE this will be a huge drawback for Apple. And of course vice versa.

Doesn't matter. Apple needs the approval of all the shareholders of the patent in order to receive license to use the technology.

If Samsung does not consent, it does not matter what the other shareholders say or that Apple has good faith. Such is the legal conundrum of jointly owned property and patents.

They are wasting money if they try to sue Apple. They were just found guilty for copying Apple, and now they are trying to safe face because they look like crap. Samsung copies Apple in too many ways. Their Windows 8 start menu replacement S Launcher looks almost exactly like the OSX Dock, just another thing they might get sued for. Either way, it is greedy corporation versus greedy corporation. All this tells me is that I should pre-order the iphone early just in case of BS later on.

They behave like little kids on the playground, all along the moto "You did this to me and I will do that to you!"
Just imagine what they could have done with the money they shove up the lawyer's arses.
Nothing is impossible, only miracles take a bit longer!

Samsung didn't copy shit, it is actually Apple who should be blamed for replicating the novelty of work from different corporations.

also the billion dollar loss does not make a big of a difference in their agenda, and all we have is the jury's verdict, and Samsung hasn't paid apple yet.

HIT IF I HELPED
