Upgrading to Iphone 5: Worth It?

Hey all,

I'm still on my iPhone 4, and personally I'm pretty happy with it. The iPhone 5 looks nice, but again like the 4s, I don't see it as a complete overhaul like going from the iPhone 3G to iPhone 4. Still, it is lighter, thinner, faster, better camera, so on so on....

Basically, what is anyone's opinion? Is it worth upgrading? Why or why not?

I decided to not be an early adopter

I will wait for my upgrade in a few months

then we can see from users reports if there are any problems

I can't have a device with drop calls and bad signal

I can understand what you mean by waiting out for them to sort out all of the bugs and other problems like the iphone 4 had when it came out. BUT they should have learned and fixed it by iPhone 4s. SO i'm assuming it won't have that problem again. ALSO, maybe if you get the early model of iPhones, you'll get the lowest baseband version which might be later be unlockable. THEREFORE it might be worth more if you ever decide to sell. just my thoughts.

as for me, i'd like to get one but it's a "WANT" not a "NEED." i4 is cool for now

I've ordered one, not a massive upgrade from my (now sold) 4s but always buy the new handset from apple when its released. The wife on the other hand still has her iPhone 4 (8gb) and loves it.

Not a massive Apple fan, Don't own a mac etc just like the phones. Tried an S3 for about 2 weeks but just couldn't get along with it.

Guys

Is it really only me that is more and more desperate about people that need help to decide if they should up or downgrade their devices ?

Or if they should get an android or iphone ?

If they should spy on their girl or not ?

If they should make a diet to loose fat or i dunno !

Can't you people make a decision that is not influenced by any other person ?

I don't know you in real life i know nothing about your preferences i know nothing about you ,so how can you expect an reality based answer on your question ?

I aint got a glass orb where i can watch in for 30 bucks and tell you any shit that you might want to hear to .

And dont you dare to come here and telling me that iam an ass for telling you the truth ,you provided nothing on informations except that the iphone 5 is taller what we all learned already on our own that would allow me to give you even a remotely good answer on your question.

Damn, have you never read product reviews?

Ultimately you are going to buy what you want but if every says a product is crap, you are going to be more hesitant. If every one sings praise, then you will be more likely to purchase.

As for the iPhone5, no one has used it yet so these threads are kind of worthless until the 21st.

Very true. Its really not that much different than the 4S release....the jump from the iP4 to the 4S was far less of an upgrade than the 4S to the iP5 and that phone sold like hot cakes even though the initial consensus was disappointment. This phone will be no different. At least the 4S to the 5 has some external improvements, ie bigger screen which IMO is a step forward over just the expected standard hardware, camera, few gimmicky features etc etc. The difference with this release is now Apple seems to have some real competition since devices like the S3 are advancing at a far greater pace than the iPhone. This obviously has pros and cons but it's funny when you think about how just a few years ago the Blackberry was the competition and what happend to them?

That all said, Apple will still have their buyers which consists of both fanboys and haters. I think ppl will finally catch on and realize that there are choices and at the end of the day, the consumer wins. I'm starting to feel comfort in the fact that I have the choice to choose style vs function and no matter what, I will still have a great device!

This is called a discussion forum. People are discussing and expressing their ideas.

If it bothers you that much, you don't have to read it.

I'm just curious what other people's ideas were about the phone and what their rationale was for being an early adopter or waiting or not planning to upgrade at all. Personally, I already made my decision and nothing anyone says is going to influence me, I just thought it was a fun discussion to start.

No need to take offense.

If you got a iphone 4, and want to upgrade, I would just get a 4s, its cheaper and I dont see any reason to spend all of your extra money to buy somthing you already have...

There isn't no WOW factor in iPhone 5

this was exactly my point in my earlier post

I am waiting for after the product launch before I make any opinions about this device

If i was basing my purchase on looks alone... then I would have pre ordered

the design looks awesome... I can see batman using this device

Jesus H christ, whats with people? everyone is so hostile and angry recently?

Is the iphone5 worth getting? absobloodlutley!

My iphone4 is THE best phone ive ever owned. Ive got s3, HTC sensation, and they have thier own advantages but iphone has the iphone experience and all things considered, ease of use, simple OS, wonderfull app store and reliability its iphone all the way.

It makes me laugh when someone has the most beautiful, intelligent sexy girlfriend and they go away for a week, come back with bigger boobs and people moan that her shape hasnt changed and still got the same hair colour??

seriously? the iphone is now faster, got a nice big screen but not TOOOO BIG!!! or people would have moaned lol its still the same device we know and love, if it aint broke dont fix it.

Android devices HAVE to change to try and beat iphone

Iphone just has to beat itself, and it does that by being a bit better every time.

The 3GS was superceded by the iphone4 as it was a transition to the super smart phone, a front camera, retina display, fast cpu and good battery life were needed.

Radical changes now are not 1 generation away and people have to realise this. To go from psone to ps2 was a huge leap, from ps2 to ps3 was better resolution and faster, but not such a radical change. GT2 is crap compared to GT4 on the ps2, GT5 does not look or play much different to GT4, just a higher resolution. So to be really blown away were going to have to wait for the ps4 and GT6 for a generation leap in gameplay and gfx.

Same with phones.

Theres only so much you can do with a phone and apple are not going to make a completely different product every year.

I agree, however it appears iPhone may have committed suicide on this attempt.

U ever wonder why the Apple logo has a hole in the side of it, lol

Hahaha actually no but you raise i good point.

Strange thing is, i usually buy an iphone second hand 6months after release but the iphone5 is the first phone im thinking of buying brand new from the apple store.

Major sell outs of stock are looking good so far, be interesting to see how it shapes up in a years time as apparently the S3 was the fastest selling smartphone ever.

The 4/4S has a faster CPU than the iPhone 5? A better camera? Better graphics processor? Already has LTE? The list goes on

As for the upgrade being worthwhile? Yup. You have a 2 year old phone, which basically makes it obsolete and next year it will be discontinued for good. Might as well upgrade

If you are two gens behind? Perhaps. It all really depends.
My story is that i'm coming from an iPhone 4 and its more of a NEED and a WANT because the hardware on my 4 has given out (can't hear people on calls and they can't hear me, homebutton is dead and speakers do not work). So I thought hey the iPhone 5 looks rather cool especially coming from a 800MHz processor and 512MB RAM and 3G to 1GHz dual core, 1GB RAM and LTE. For me its hardware that I enjoy the most in upgrades, the aesthetics come second. However to those with a 4S wouldn't see much change with the 5 just like the 4S was for iPhone 4 users. Wait till the iPhone 5S and it will be something to possibly consider for 4S users.
The other main argument is how they haven't changed the "looks" for the iPhone 5. The reason being is that it's a design that works and one that sells, personally it's got great ergonomics for use of the touch screen. But hey thats not important, ill let you decide!

I was hoping they would have added these features not the thin design shown.

There are some nice changes from the 4S... BUT in my opinion OS6 software has more to offer than the iPhone 5 hardware.

As a side note, as an AT&T user they really don't make it easy to lure those who want the newest devices to take the leap. I was a former T-Mobile subscriber and they always allowed you to receive the full discount on any device, so long as you extended your agreement. The BIG DIFFERENCE is that T-Mobile will add the additional 2 years to whatever time you have left on yoir existing agreement. With AT&T, it's 2 years no sooner, to take advantage of the full discount. From a business standpoint, it would make sense that if subscribers chose to "lock in" so much the better for AT&T. In my case I damaged my iPhone and had no choice but to get a new device in May and while I love the 4S, even if I wanted to get the 5, I live on a fixed income and simply cant afford $400 plus.

Basically, what is anyone's opinion? Is it worth upgrading? Why or why not?
I had the 4s & thought it was good, but I had an upgrade available so I got the I5. I noticed amazing difference in net speed & program speed, the camera is better also.
The dual a6 processor is good, but the one gig of memory is the best reason to upgrade.

No Offence to anyone who disagrees, but I'd have to say that most people who say don't upgrade, haven't had a chance to really experience the I5...

The only reason to wait might be: if you can not live without jailbreak for a while
