I did the method as posted on page 1 for my Iphone 3gs and now my phone keeps restarting, and I can not even restore my phone from a back up due to the restarting. Any help would be great thanks.
p.s. I still have the unlockit.co.nz installed on my iphone.
Ok I was just now able to restore my phone from back up. hopefully it does not do the restart again. I will try the procedure on page 1 again. So I should remove the unlockit.co.nz ?

After backup my phone froze and crashed then rebooted, and it continues to restart every min or so. I am wondering if I should just restore my phone new and this will fix the issue ?

Hey guys i read through this and my problem doesnt seem to be addressed. My phone is working fine with the exception of being able to use safari or get my email...
also when i go into settings and all of that the cellular data is on but doesnt so any detail as to APN... but it does show that the VPN isnt connected... that could be nothing considering i have no idea what a VPN is.
my phone was recently jail broken by a friend- used cydia and my mms is working just fine... although i have noticed that occasionally what should be an imessage is sent as a text...
anyways- thanks in advance :-D

@jrsygrl623 you have to install tetherme to edit your apn... VPN is virtual private network, if you don't know what it is then you don't have one lol no need to worry about it

@white, your only possible hope is to restore from a previous backup, if that doesnt work, you are forced to restore.
@Jrsy Yes, if you APN is edited correctly you should have no issues with iMessage, you can edit it with or without tetherme. If your APNs are showing correctly, then the problem is with the device itself and I would do a complete restore, then edit the APNs as soon as the phone comes back up.
With BOTH of you, if you do decide to restore your phone to stock, DO NOT restore from a previous backup. As soon as the phone is activated/jailbroke, back it up and do all the edits. If you need something out of the backups such as pictures, you can use iBackupbot to pull them from the backup. This is just my personal suggestion. If you still cannot get things working, or you do not feel comfortable working in the phone like that, I can do everything for you remotely. although I will charge a small fee.
Once again, to EVERYONE.... DO NOT use the unlockit profile unless you do not wish to use my method. The unlockit profile persists after backups and I am not sure on everything that it changes within the phone.... In my opinion, that should be used as a last resort when all else has failed and it still will not give you MMS.

Awesome post, I'm also falling into the "new Category" so bear with me. I downloaded the free trial version and I'm not sure what all goes into the Backup part of it, I'm more than willing to type in the codes to get it working but I'm not sure how to have an original copy saved somewhere else? What do i got to do to have a "baseline" copy saved somewhere in case I mess it up.

when you edit the backup yourself, it does not save the data to the backup, only sends it to your phone, if you restore from the program itself, it leaves your old backup the way it is until you make a new backup with the settings in it.

I am on ios 6 GM using straight talk and 3g and picture messaging are working beautifully. I did not feel like being tethered jailbroken. Also is there away for me to change the HOME where the carrier is with this? Also can you give yourself visual voicemail somehow doing this?

No.... that definitely didn't work on my 4s.
Got it working but it requires an unlocked phone for me to do so.

@UFA The only way to get VM on ST is to use a program like YouMail. As far as the HOME Carrier, the only thing I know to change it is to be jailbroken.

i just tried to do the mms and data fix on my iphone 4 after upgrading to ios 6. after a couple hours realized i no longer had mms or data. when i did it i got stuck in a loop. it would only start halfway up and then shut down again. i tried to force it into restore mode and even then it would not go. but then it finally started up and completed the restore. i now have working data and mms on my iphone 4 again. but for some reason im having the same issue with iphone 3gs but nothing im doing is working on it. any ideas?

just double checked all the setting when i backed up again. and for some reason all the apn in the preferences.plist reverted back to the blank state. all the att.mvno i put in was gone. but yet i can still send mms and have data. i have no idea why that is. and it also done the same to the 3gs i have but i still cant get the mms and data to work on it. so for now ive installed the apn profile.

The edits will NOT work in iOS 6. The only method I have found is with the unlocked phone thing that I did. Although not everyone has factory unlocked phones..... I will never buy a locked phone again.
