ATV 3

I got one of these last week to hopefully wait for a JB to come out for it. I just wanted to know, my ATV has Apple TV Software 5.0.2 (4250) & OS BUILD VERSION 5.1.1 (9B830) , do I need to save a blob or something here & if so what I'm I saving and how is this done? I keep hearing ppl taking about doing this, is it mainly if they have issues with the device and want to restore to a earlier version apple are no longer signing off? My Iphone has been JB for nearly 18months on version 5.0.1, should I of saved the blob when it was possible maybe? Hopefully I wont need to do a restore and time soon.

Download the latest version of tiny umbrella and save your blobs.

If there is software available to save blobs for any of your devices it is recommended that you do so.

Is it also still possible to save my IP4 blob if I needed to, so I could downgrade back to 5.0.1 or is it to late for the phone & and only the ATV is worth saving?

blobs are usually save with Cydia, if you go to Cydia look for a package called iSHSHit, download it, and open it. Select the firmware you want to backup and make sure the "Via Cydia" is enabled then click the save button. (Use ssh to take them out, or email them through the app).

For the ATV I don't see why to save the blobs, since there's a small chance of bricking it, and i don't believe you could accidentally upgrade it unless you connected to the computer a lot, but just in case use tiny umbrella and it should work.

Ps: The shsh blobs saved by iSHSHit, are only the ones that appear in the Cydia main page right over the "Welcome to Cydia" text.
Also if one the blobs in Cydia says something like for example 5.1.1r1 then you need to use TinyUmbrella to get the correct blob.

@ turtl3skull, when you click into the topic you want post in there is a button on the left just above previous post left 'NEW THREAD'.

You mentioned that you don't think you can accidentally upgrade the ATV unless you connect it to your pc a lot, but at the moment when I turn on the box when it's connected to my tv it ask if I want to upgrade, let's just say if I clicked 'YES' would it then ask me to connect it to a pc or would it just start d/l an update straight away? Also is there a way to stop that message appearing?

@Anthony, you can use an app for windows called WinSCP and for Mac Cyberduck I believe it's called.

I believe Anthony was trying to make the point that you can't SSH into an unjailbroken iOS device.....which of course is exactly what the OP's aTV3 is.

there unfortunately isn't any jailbreak for the atv3 yet. you can't do anything to it, including sshing into it.i'm pretty sure you can't save blobs from it.. if you update your apple tv, it'll do it right away on the device. there is no way to hide the alert either.
