I use AVAST. There's free and paid versions and the name is sufficiently pirate-related.

Which tickles my Irony Bone.

If you got the money, norton is the best hands down, I think its $80 a year for full security you can pay for it online or you can just goto your local computer store and buy it a year at a time

Norton sucks simply because it is bloatware and uses a lot of system resources, has a poor identification rate for finding viruses and such and it is hard to uninstall everything from it once it is installed. It is extremely bloated. I use CommonSense 2010, Malwarebytes and Bitdefender 2010. AVAST is good too.

Yea NORTON = FAIL FAIL FAIL

I would just use Windows Defender, it's lightweight, it's already installed and it works!

Other than that I would recommend nod32

Bitdefender, kapersky, or nod32
free ones, I would use Avira or Avast.
There isn't an antivirus that is full proof against viruses.

Hit Thanks if I helped!

Avast to protect your system. Don't use window settings as too many holes. Install and use sandbox to preinstall software. This won't allow the file to install on your pc until you have seen what it does in the box.

Has saved my bacon and a few friends many times.

I thumbs-up AVG, as well.

And a big FUCK YOU to the guy who said Norton. I almost fried my old laptop when I switched over to a copy of Spybot Search & Destroy

Your prolly right in some sense, but if you have 6gb of ram and are running a AMD quad core cpu usage isnt much of a factor, and I dunno what all this talk about bad virus values are but for the 10++ years i've been using it i'v never had any problems, Norton Internet Security even blocks attacks against your computer from hackers, I guess despite what virus program you prefer it all comes down to how competent you are about downloading things and surfing the web or whatver it is you do with your computer. So all I can say further is I don't care what anyone says norton is still the best for me as for free versions avg is pretty good and their paid version is right up there with the best. So go get whatever virus scanner you think everyone ells thinks is the best

Oh and no its not that hard to uninstall it, anybody that knows how to use "Programs and Features" can do that

norton is the best. i install it on all of my clients' systems. its the longest running AV and firewall software on the market. yes it is system resource hogging, but it does the job 100%.

also its a matter of preference as far as av's and firewalls go.

some will say "if your on a router dont bother with a firewall just get a a/v"

i say get norton internet securities 2010 and keep your thoughts at ease...

best thing to do though, try some out on your system and see what you like the best.

norton is fucking crap. they just spend more money on advertising than other antivirus companies so more people see their name and just assume they are the best.
