Iphone 3GS upgrade to IOS 5.1.1

Hi all,

I have a Iphone 3GS and initially had a IOS 4.3.3 with baseband 6.15.0, i downloaded the IOS 5.1.1 and tried updating through Redsnow redsn0w_win_0.9.15b2 and it failed and got a White screen. after draining the Battery we were able to install only IOS 4.1. and working perfectly fine.

post which i again tried upgrading to IOS 5.1.1 and get initially the erro 3914 and after using TiunyUmberalla got the error (not sure number) and didnt install. i tried even installing IOs 6 and Installation started and i aborted as baseband would will vary and wouldnt be able to jailbreak and activate.

i also tried creating custom IPSWusing snowbreeze 2.96 and still in vain can some help me in upgrading my IOS to 5.1.1

Do you have your 5.1.1 shsh blobs saved?

If so you need to create a stitched custom firmware with snow breeze or redsnow.

Make sure your hosts file is NOT pointed to Cydia

If you do not have your 5.1.1 shsh blobs saved then you cannot upgrade to 5.1.1.

I dont know if i have it saved, do we have any steps to do that and i can try and let you know

Download tiny umbrella to your computer, connect your device and there is a button that will display all your saved shsh blobs.

1. download tinyumbrella-6.00.01.exe and save the SSH file to the Desktop from Cydia server. It already had a 5.1.1 SSH blobs
2. Execute redsnow.exe from redsn0w_win_0.9.15b2
3. Seklect Extras - SSHblobgs
3- Select Stitch
4. Select IPSW and browse for IOS 5.1.1 and select Local and selected the 5.1.1 SSHblobs and created a custom IPSW
5. Went Back and selected Selct IPSW and selected created one and it says version of custom firmware isnt supproted by Redsnow

Note: I have 4.1.1, 4.3.3, 4.5.5 and 5.1.1 SSH blobs saved pn Cydia/


Am i doing something wrong?

use redsnow_win_0.9.14b2 and if you dont have shsh blobs you ca use snowbreeze to create custom firmare to upgrade 5.0.1 or 5.1.1 try it sir..

I recently did update mine to 5.1.1 iOS. I ran into a few problems. So firstly you will have to check if you have an old bootrom or the new one. As far as I know if you have the old one you are in luck since there are possible ways to upgrade or downgrade without shahs blobs. If you have the new one then you need to make sure you have your shah blobs for the respective firmware version that is 5.1.1 shah. Like a few users above have posted how to use tiny umbrella you need to do that. Then once that done use redsn0w restore button to restore your iPhone. Its pretty easy wont take you from than 10 minutes unless you bump into problems. :P

I have a new Boot Room and i have used tiny umberalla to download my SHSH blobs. i have ard 4 blobs stored on the cydia server and have downloaded it. i did a stitch with redsn0w_win_0.9.15b2 and created a custom IPSW with local SHSH and put the phone on DFU mode and Recovery mode and tried upgrading through Itunes, i wasnt able to perform and i get 3194 and 11 error. also i added the host file, removed the hist file and still problem remains same.

glendale - Thanks with the version you told i was able to install the IOS 5.1.1 and in the process of activation. i have asked my friend to get me the AT&T sim for activation and i think i should be able to solve. thanks for your help

also paralllely is it possible to bypass the activation screen.

i was able to restore IOs 5.1.1 on my 3GS and selected Jail break, install Cydia and ultrasnow 1.2.7 and was able to activate the phone
