iPhone 3g will not restore, stuck in WTF mode, how to fix it?

Hi everyone,

I got this iPhone 3g and it is stuck in WTF mode. I tried everything that I can think of. When I use redsnow to exit WTF mode, it exits out of WTF mode but it says USB communication problem but if i use 0.9.12b1 redsnow it says 1st-gen device(DFU mode) then use pwn DFU again it goes back in WTF mode. When I try to restore with itunes it gives error 6 or 16XX. It can jailbreak fine but fails to reboot. I did try to put the ipad baseband but I don't know if it installed. I am just trying to restore it so I can use again.

turn the phone off , if you can

hold down home button while plugging in device

keep holding until itunes logo shows up

restore to official 3.1.2

then if that works you can go from there to whatever firmware you want

Ok, I will try that but what I notice when jailbreaking it and it fails it goes in recovery but it doesn't show the iTunes logo. It's like it is failing to load ios.

Hi
did you manage to get this problem resolved ?

got what sounds like exactly the same problem no matter what method i try to restore with I always end up with this damn error 6 and no boot just back to dfu or wtf mode !!
tried everything i can think of to get past this but no luck !
tried different cables, different ports, different computer with fresh install of windows 7,redsnow (usually ends up with usb com error unless i use older versions),snowbreeze custom fw,ireb, tiny umbrella even tried irecovery !
done with custom fw's and official fw 3.1.3,4.2.1
the custom fw almost completes before fail and the official gets to about 2 3rds before fail?
this error 6 i plaguing me every time !!
it even jailbrakes with redsnow but dosnt reboot just goes back to dfu or wtf with black screen and ive never even seen the connect to itunes on the screen it just stays black!

so if you found a way round this error please let me know,it would be a huge help to me
dont care which fw version its running just want the damn thing to turn on i'm determined this thing wont beat me!

any help or pointers in the right direction would be much appreciated
cheers guys

recently. i opened my 3g and cleaned it because the the volume & mute button dont work anymore because of dirt. I assembled it back again but the vibrator dont work anymore, but everything else works well.

Is it possible that what caused it on not to restore to original/jailbroken iOS because of that broken/not working vibrator?

Solution 1 : Turn off your device , then turn back on and everything should be fine.

Solution 2 : Plug your device into a PC or a MAC then iTunes should detect your device is in recovery mode and recover iPhone data from recovery mode.

ITUNES will automatically pick it up and a pop up box will probally say that your IPHONE is in recovery mode would you like to restore?

3. Click the restore tab.

Note - If ITUNES if out of date, this will not work.

Note - Do not do this over WIFI

Note - Do not interrupt the restore

Note - If you did not make a previous back up, your IPHONE will restore back to the factroy settings.

Solution 3 : RESTORE, your iPod

Solution 4: Press and hold the power button for 5 secs , press and hold the home button and release the power button. Now press the power button and the home button for 10 secs.

Hope this helps
