Icon2 Android OS on iPhone 2G/3G and iPod Touch 1G

Android OS on YOUR iDevice

***For a tutorial with pictures go to (http :// bit .ly/gR1XW1)

I know there are lots of these on here, but this one is up-to-date and the easiest. It requires no computer at all to get started with Android OS on your supported iDevice. Yes, this is a work in progress, it's somewhat sluggish. Don't cry about it.

Requirements:
  • iPhone 2G/3G or an iPod Touch 1G
  • iDevice jailbroken with redsn0w, blackra1n, or Pwnagetool
  • Firmware OS 3.1.2, 3.1.3, 4.0.X, 4.1 or 4.2.1
Instructions
  1. Go into Cydia > Manage > Sources > Edit > Add
  2. Enter "http: // repo. neonkoala.com
  3. Search for Bootlace
  4. Install it then go back to the home screen by pressing the home button and run it
  5. Click the OpeniBoot tab and install it
  6. Click the iDroid tab and install it (This takes a bit for the download)
  7. Click the QuickBoot tab and from there you can either boot into Android or Console
***When ever you restart your device you will come up to a screen that shows iOS, Console and Android. Move up and down with the power button and select with the home button. Only boot into console if you know what you are doing!***

Tips

  • You can download Multitouch AND WiFi firmware from the iDroid tab by clicking the "i" button at the top right
  • There is another thing like this called iPhodroid, I advise you stay away. Constantly stealing and infringing the licensing of other contributors (Chronic Dev Team, Westbaer)
  • Any future releases will be distributed by Bootlace, just check for updates in the iDroid tab

Troubleshooting

1. I successfully installed iDroid but when I reboot, the Apple logo appears and I am returned straight to iOS!

You most likely don't have OpeniBoot installed, go back to Bootlace and check to see if it is or not.

2. Does Bootlace support iPad, iPod Touch 2G/3G, iPhone 3GS/4?

No.

3. "Kernelcache appears to be incorrectly patched. Please reinstall Bootlace." But reinstalling doesn't fix this!

Remove the file "var/mobile/Library/Preferences/be.dawson" then relaunch Bootlace.

It really is that simple, and it is legit. But I can't include screenshots because I can't post links just yet as I am still a recently joined member. Sorry!

I tried it a month or 2 ago and it works. Check iDroidproject.org for info and full tutorials.

Android is not optimized for iDevices, so if you want to use Android as your main OS, buy an Android phone. If you just want to try it out for 5 minutes, you can do this. It's pretty slow and useless, but it's fun to know it works! The main reason you cannot use it beside for "testing purposes" is because it rapes battery, it cannot go on real standby and most functions do not work well. The UI lags too.

Yes, that should be clear to anyone that is interested in this. It's still a big work in progress, you should expect that.

Haha, yeah. I'm mainly interested in just checking it out. I like to tinker. I run a 3G though so I've stayed clear of dual booting because we all know how awesome the processor is! I dunno, I might give it a try if it's pretty safe. So basically when you boot it'll ask you whether you'd like to boot from iOS, Android, or the console option? Easy to uninstall? Thanks for the feedback guys, much appreciated!

---------- EDIT ----------

Anothe quick question... I did a bunch of rebooting a while back after a few crashes. I know I used redsnow a few times, and I remember using jailbreakme a few times, but I don't know which one I ultimately ended up using (NUBSAUCE LULZ). Will this crash my phone if I attempt to install and I end up having used jailbreakme (not listed in requirements) or will it simply not respond?

---------- EDIT ----------

UPDATE: They have a failsafe of sorts. I guess I DID use jailbreakme and it caught it when I tried to run the application. Good job to the Devs! Lol

Yes, they run a compatibility check at the very beginning to make sure. It's very easy to uninstall, just go back to the OpeniBoot and iDroid tabs and click remove!

Check their website to use the good JBs. Jbme is not a good JB.

If you get a good JB and install it properly it'll be super easy to uninstall. Don't act like an idiot though, be careful of what you do, being all like "I dont know what I used and I dont know if it will work" may ruin your phone. Android is more than just an app.

Good luck ^_^

That is false. It will not ruin your iDevice. Before anything happens, Bootlace runs a compatibility check at first start up. If you don't pass it, it won't install anything.
