notifications on iphone 3g running ios 4.2.1 quit working

I was running a non jailbroken iphone 3g running ios 4.2.1 and one day my notifications quit working. I decided it was time to jailbreak my phone in hopes i could fix the problem or find a free tweak that would fix it. I've tried so many things and looked around for about a week now and I've not found any solution to the problem. Ive tried SAM and that didn't fix it. Ive tried push doctor, and two other hactivation tweaks on cydia... all with no luck. It is possible that i did something wrong or didn't fully complete some of the things but all in all I'm at a loss on what to do to fix the problem. My problem is that i don't get notifications any more, though i do get email notifications and local notifications. If anyone has some idea on how to help please leave me a post and ill get back to it if there are any questions.

ill give those two a try. right now I'm putting them on my phone, then ill respiring, then ill reinstall my apps that use push... after that ill come back and report my findings... apps are gone... only installing a few test apps. soon to try

---------- EDIT ----------

well that didn't work... I've tried sending a message/text to myself between Google Voice and TextNow, and vice-versa... nether got the messages until i went under my apps. any other ideas on what to do? just to recap on what i did. 'installed the two apps from cydia, respring my phone, deleted all my apps that use push, put 2 apps back on and tried messaging myself.. no luck with getting the messages, went into the app after a minute or two, my massages showed up without any notifications saying it was there.'

I finally did get my notifications working... all i had to do was hock up to another wifi point and they just started working. it seems to of turned out that my internet provider wasn't able to register my phone with apples push notification center, so using another wifi fixed that. yay for multiple wifi's being around.
