Apple iOS 10.2.1 Is Now Available: What Is Included In The Update?

Apple iOS 10.2.1 Is Now Available: What Is Included In The Update?

Today Apple has released iOS 10.2.1, which comes about 42 days after iOS 10.2 was released. The description of the update simply says that it includes bug fixes and security improvements for the iPhone or iPad so it is easy to tell that this is a minor update. The first iOS 10.2.1 beta was released on December 14th followed by a second beta on December 20th, a third beta on January 9th and a fourth beta on January 12th.

Most likely, this update fixes certain issues that were encountered following the release of iOS 10.2. iOS 10.2 included new wallpapers for the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, a new TV app, new Messages effects, new Camera settings, a new Videos app widget, and 100 new emoji characters based on Unicode 9.0.

I suspect that the 10.2.1 update should contain a fix for the 30% bug -- which causes devices to suddenly drop from 30% battery charge to 1%. However, this has not been confirmed as of yet. I will update this article once it becomes clear which bugs have been fixed by iOS 10.2.1.

Update: Apple’s security page for iOS 10.2.1 says that the software update addresses under-the-hood kernel improvements and bugs that cause Auto Unlock to unlock when the Apple Watch is off the user’s wrist and issues with malicious contact cards that can crash the Contacts app. There is also a fix for an issue that causes an activation-locked device to be manipulated into briefly presenting the Home screen.

When iOS 10.3 arrives next month, it will be a much bigger release. For example -- iOS 10.3 is believed to have a new feature called “Theater Mode,” which is expected to be some form of enhanced Dark Mode. Forbes contributor Gordon Kelly speculates that it would optimize the video viewing experience by dimming the screen and muting notifications. The "Theater Mode" feature is reportedly going to be controllable with one tap on a popcorn-shaped icon.

You can install iOS 10.2.1 by connecting your device to iTunes or downloading it by going to Settings > General > Software Update. The iOS 10.2.1 update is available for the following devices: iPhone 5 and later, iPad 4th generation and later and iPod touch 6th generation and later. The software update is about 72MB in size so you will not need to clear out much space on your devices

Why update?

What gets me is why people bother to update religiously every time the great god Apple tells them to. Invariably the latest version is full of bugs or has just been introduced to foil jailbreak exploits. If it weren't for all the exploding Galaxy Notes around I'd seriously be considering jumping ship to Android!

For some of those, you can use Flex to spoof a different iOS version.
I did that with the Walmart app so I could use the receipt scanner. It was wanting my me to install the latest iOS and app. They did update their server side of the app and now the tweak won't work, but it did for about 6 months. YMMV.

Than jump ship to android. If you do not understand why there updates to any OS than that is your fault. Nothing wrong with updates.

Well unless they're just to defeat jailbreaking!

Ahh that's no fun. My iPhone 6 got stuck in an infinite boot loop, and nothing worked to get it out. I had to update to 10.2.1 and lose my 8.1.2 JB last week... I know, I know.. I missed my opportunities to go to 9 and get a JB. I honestly liked 8 though. I will be waiting for another JB. Till then, stock I suppose. Lol 😥
