Iphone 7 Has Huge Speed Deficit Between 32GB & 128/256GB Models

Appears Apple, touting that the only difference between the iPhone 7's base 32GB, 128GB and 256GB models was the amount of SSD storage, wasn't being entirely truthful.

In fact they weren't being truthful at all - and it may land them in a class action lawsuit on the grounds of deceptive advertising or non-disclosure if this performance delta is repeatable with all other iPhone 7s.
It's all but certain that Apple knew about this performance gap during their extensive component testing and beta testing but chose not to make any mention of it.

The speed deficit is in both the read speed between the two memory options, but more stunningly, the write speed - where the 32GB model is some 88% slower than the 128/256 version in benchmark testing. And this speed gap isn't just in theoretical bench test, it translates to real-world data upload and download speeds as evidence in the video below where it takes a full minute longer to transfer a 4GB file.

Not a huge concern for an occasional file big transfer, but if you're someone who moves files on and off the device quite often and that would be expected for a price sensitive or conscious consumer who buys the least storage possible knowing they'll be fairly judicious about freeing up media memory buy moving it on / off the device as needed, the slower speeds both up and down - that minute compounded over each file transfer - can tally up additional hours of lost time simply waiting for data to move on and off your iPhone.

The difference in speed may be a limitation of the 32 GB memory chip. In other words, it may be a hardware issue, and not something Apple has any control over. In which case there would be no reason for Apple to bring attention to the matter.

Edit: At 0:44 he makes exactly the same point
That's what I get for posting a comment before watching the video lol

Did the test on my iphone 7 plus 32gb and got write speed from 68.2-77.5 and read from 688-742 with the same program.

so it is still better then a write-speed of 42.0

Read speed is what really matters! you only write when installing apps and copying stuff and even 42MB/s is not that bad.

Still surprised that there is such a big difference in write speed though

Google Pixel's 32GB memory has no major differences between their 32 and >32GB read / write speeds.

Apple has some explaining to do ... in a major way.

I read it had to do with what "chip" was in the phone ... not the storage. Some phones were shipped with Qualcomm and others with intel and he Qualcomms were faster
iDevices:
iPhone 7+ [Matte Black 128GB] iOS 10.3 Beta 7
iPad Air 2 [Gold 128GB] 9.3.3 Jailbroken
Apple TV 4 [32GB] 10.2 Beta 6
Apple Watch Series 1 [Space Gray] watchOS 3.2 Beta 6
Sorry for the absence. Been busy with work and life. I still plan to keep some of my signatures updated.....but other than that, I'm going to stick to moderating.

Blazing read speeds. Was it duplicable or just a one time anomaly?

Hmmm.... now, how does one identify which phone is equipped with which chip?
And Apple is still going to have some explaining or at least making whole to do with consumers who bought slower devices w/o being informed that they device is slower.

I run the test several times and the highest was 209 MByte/Sec
I 'll upload more screenshots in a few minutes ...

---------- EDIT ----------

Ok, here you go ...

Run the test 10 times and the lowest was 180 MByte/Sec

Repeat the test a few times by taping on "Storage Write" and see if you get a better result.
