Never EVER restore from a back up or you will run into bugs.

What kind of things do you want to keep.

If its app data then it's easy to just copy specific parts and reinstall later.

If contacts and no.s that stored elsewhere. If its apps from cydia just redownload.

Let us know and we can point you to the correct folders.

Just back up all contacts to iCloud/Photostream

Just always set up as new!

so theres no places to look for this 4.7GB of Other? I have to just setup as new?

---------- EDIT ----------

Read this...

My main use for this app is the ability to download/stream avi and mkv tv eps and movies from filesharing websites using mobile safari and then open them in VLC.

However there's a huge issue with this.

I downloaded a 175MB TV ep via fileshare (had 540MB free space), a few seconds after it had downloaded I saw a screen in mobile safari that said:
---
xxxxxxxxx.avi
Open in VLC
---

I clicked on the Open in VLC button...nothing happened, clicked about 4 more times, nothing happened and then iOS displayed a "low disk warning" on a black screen....that could not be closed. I then decided for force my iPod into restarting.

After doing so, low and behold I now have 0 diskspace free. Clearing mobile safari's cache did not allow me to regain the 540MB that I lost.

I gather that each time you click the "Open in VLC" button iOS tries to copy (and not move) the downloaded file...and if something goes wrong during that process like the device appearing to lock up (what occured in my case) the diskspace CANNOT be reclaimed without doing a full restore.

So my advice, be VERY careful when you hit the "Open in VLC" button after downloading "large" video files...only hit the button once, and then sit back and wait. Do not hit it more than once as you may essentially lock up the iPod/iPhone, forcing you to restart it without the ability to re-gain lost diskspace.

This is exactly how all of this happened!!!!

Thats why I was trying to restore in the first place!

Problem is once the memory was 0, I wanted to backup before I did a full restore, and I deleted a few apps to give me the memory to do a backup

I think the Cache or whatever is in my backup...

but where???

How many times do you have to hear it before you quit asking the same question. No one so far knows why this happens but your not the first. Because your backup did work and you have all your stuff look into ways to backup your shit manually. Anyone jailbreaking and restoring frequently knows you don't restore from iTunes backup

lol never got that one before!

Kudoos

---------- EDIT ----------

Ok so this is quickly becoming a nightmare lol

I decided to say F my data and set up as a new iphone, so I restored once again, setup as new iphone, jailbroke, then looked for restore from cloud...

Guess what, you can only do it from the initial setup seq. ok so how can I re-run setup? the only thing I could find was erase settings and data.

Did that, and restored using icloud.

Well now cydia keeps crashing, and it wont let me re jailbreak (because it thinks it already is)

So I guess I have to start again now that I know the proper seq.

restore, then restore with icloud, then JB!

Im so tired, been up since 4 this morning due to step dad having major surgery!

God this is frustrating lol, No kidding this is my 8th restore tonight!

K dude, I understand your frustration, been there & done that! as well as many others have experienced restoring an idevice's ios multiple times.
It seems you keep creating yourself a lot of problems to your idevice, that aren't even necessary to begin with. My advice, sacrifice not doing or installing all the stuff you keep complaining about, that's messing up your device. Forget what everyone else has told you in here & just follow my advice.

1) Open Settings on your iPhone, select Safari & turn-off/disable Security Fraud Warning. Doing that will prevent iTunes from downloading & installing Safari safe browsing data & adding unnecessary space to the disk storage.

2) On your right side of iTunes, uncheck everything in Options.
Download & Install a tool to turn-off you iTunes automatic back-up.

3) Follow the instructions given on the links below, regarding removing unwanted disk space.

4) Regarding restoring to a previous working IOS idevice point, always save a backup manually to iTunes, everytime you add a new app or tweak, or maybe save a point to a backup manually every 2 or 3 days. Use xBackup to save & restore cydia respiratory apps. Use Appbackuo to restore previous saved game app settings.

GOOD LUCK!!
