Spite & Spite Fix Pack [HOW TO]

All right, the untethered 5.1.1 jailbreak spurred a lot of migration towards better battery life (?) and updated software, but there's a problem: Spire isn't compatible! Since Spire is only supported on 5.0.1 right now, people are reluctant to update in order to keep Siri on their iDevices. Well, if people are already on 5.1.1, there's good news: there's a tweak called Spite that's made by a different person, and it works for 5.1.1! I got it working on my iPhone 4 GSM with these steps:

1) Add ihacksrepo.com
2) Search for "Spite" 2.3 and download it.
TIP: Since it's ~136MB, it's best if you're on wifi.
3) Put your device in DFU mode and boot tethered using the latest redsn0w (Extras > Just boot). It should take about 2-4 minutes to boot up.
4) Once it's booted, go back to Cydia and download the Spite Fix Pack 2.4 (this will fix video recording, broken plugins, untether, etc)
TIP: This is ~82MB, so stay on wifi.

Congrats! Spite is now installed! You can add your favorite proxy the same way you did with Spire.

This will only take away your untether! The makers of spite are still updating it to 3.0 to work on 5.1.1 untether! I tried this 6 times and ALL of those tries ended me restoring and rejailbreaking my iPod.

really? if you boot tethered after jailbreaking with absinthe 2.0.1 you'll lose your untethered??

NO Boot tethered ONLY with redsn0w. Mine never booted after I installed the fix pack.

Hrmmz... you don't understand what I'm tryin' to say.

Anyways... here's my experience with Spite so far.

- Jailbroke with absinthe
- installed Spite and since I was untethered, I tried to reboot from cydia after install finished
- it froze
- so i loaded up redsnow and booted tethered
- finished setting up the rest of spite
- tested spite and it didn't work. After holding the home button and mic shows up, nothing happens. When I press the mic, nothing happens. Don't hear a beep or anything... it just sits there
- tried installing rocky racoon to get untether back and it doesn't work. Once you boot tethered you screw up your jb of absinthe.

Final conclusion is Spite works for 5.1 and not 5.1.1

I'm now restoring and starting all over again.

I tried this workaround too without success and 3 times restoring and a bit tired sitting the whole day searching for an answer on how spite will work with 5.1.1 and now i ended up with no siri on my idevice, i'm gonna miss you siri, i hope this will fix soon.

add repo.rainstone.co 2 ur cydia source and download rainstone siri for ur firmware
install ur server certificate and u r good 2 go!!

No. Only spite is getting updated. Spire will most likely never be updated Chen stated as apple hasn't deployed a decrypted iPhone 4s firmware with Siri.

There are a lot of factors that may cause Spite to fail (different devices, different methods, etc) but let me clarify some things:

On an iPhone 4 GSM restored/jailbroken with absinthe 2.0, it is confirmed to work on the technetec repo. I had problems the first time because the phone wouldn't boot after installing, but seeing posts about booting tethered (redsn0w > extras > just boot) allowed it to work on my phone. I didn't test it yet because I knew video recording didn't work, so I installed the fix pack and rebooted untethered. It worked fine afterwards and I had minor connection problems with Siri (maybe I need Rainstone? lol)
I can't find the source of this "Spite 3.0" but if they do update it, hopefully it'll be more successful to install. It seems that people don't install the fix pack because it says it's incompatible, but I can assure you it does work on 5.1.1 and it doesn't break the untether, so I would recommend installing it if there are problems.

noob question, you mean i can use any certificate? i tried but it doesnt work. thanks anyway, i will just wait for spite update.
