iTunes cannot read contents of my non-jailbroken iPhone 4S!
Ok, so first of all, I did not jailbreak my phone or do anything to my knowledge that would break it, nor do I want to! It works fine until I plug it in to iTunes, and I can still use it as before, iTunes just refuses to recognize it properly. I did, however, around this time, restore and jailbreak an Apple TV 2 on my work computer using iTunes and Seas0nPass.
Afterward, I plugged my iPhone 4S in to my work computer and got the error message:
"iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPhone "iPhone 4S". Go to the Summary tab in iPhone preferences and click Restore to restore this iPhone to factory settings."
This is the absolute last thing I want to do! This device is full of essential data and music and apps and it would be a huge pain to restore everything.
I thought maybe I somehow corrupted this installation of iTunes or my work system so I took my iPhone to my home computer where I normally sync it and all my music and backups are, and I got the same error message! The next day I connected a work iPhone to the work computer and it had no problem reading the phone. Also, when I plug my phone in, Image Capture still opens and shows me my photos.
My phone has not been jailbroken! How do I fix this so I can sync and continue to save my data and import music, and not completely wipe out my phone? Thanks!

Try iTools if that doesn't work
Turn iCloud on
Back up to icloud
Restore like iTunes says
Then restore from your ICLOUD BACKUP

Sorry buddy, you have to jailbreak your iPhone 4S & SSH through you device's IOS files & delete a few files in order to get rid-off that error you speak of. If you absolutely do not want to jailbreak your iPhone at all, I'm almost 100% certain you have no other choice but to do a full factory settings restore & loose all your previous save data.

I meant to say just turn on contact and pics in iCloud and turn everything else off
Backup to iCloud then restore

Thanks. I was afraid of that. I guess I will deal with restoring my music the hard way. Will iCloud backups save my app data? Is there anything that I should be aware that an iCloud backup doesn't save?

If in the near future you keep stumbling into IOS problems, I suggest you do an iTunes save backup point every other 2 or 3 days.

Yes your app data will be backed up, what will NOT be backed up is the app itself and essentially anything that was downloaded from iTunes or the App Store. iCloud just makes a list of what you have installed/downloaded and re-downloads all of it once you restore from the iCloud backup. Make sure that all your media (songs, videos, etc.) are on your computer and you'll be good to go, as you can re-sync that after the restore

You know the drill, send some love my way with a simple click of that thanks button!
