Absinthe 2.0.4 Released {iPad2,4 is now supported}
Absinthe: V2.0.4
change log:
Version 2.0.4
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Added iPad2,4 support.
- Added lockdown error -5 workaround
Absinthe 2.0 supports the following devices on 5.1.1:
iPad 1, iPad 2, iPad 3,iPad2,4 iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S iPod touch 3rd generation, iPod touch 4th generation
How To Use Absinthe 2.0 (if you’re unjailbroken):
1. Make a backup of your device in iTunes by right clicking on your device name under the ‘Devices’ menu and click ‘Back Up’. 2. Once your backup is complete return to your device and go to Settings – General – Reset – Erase all Content and Settings. This will make the jailbreak process much faster. 3. Open Absinthe and be sure you are still connected via USB cable to your computer. 4. Click ‘Jailbreak’ and wait…. just be patient and do not disconnect your device. 5. Once jailbroken return to iTunes and restore your backup from earlier. Right click on your device name under the ‘Devices’ menu in the left panel of iTunes and click ‘Restore from Back Up…’ then select the latest backup you created before. (restoring this backup will return all the content previously on your device ie, apps, photos, etc.) 6. Thanks for using Absinthe, enjoy your jailbroken iDevice!
How To Untether 5.1.1 (if you’re already jailbroken):
Just search for and install “Rocky Racoon 5.1.1 Untether” from Cydia.
Toubleshooting for "OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.x"
It should work for these Operating-Systems:
- OS X: Mountain Lion, Lion, Snow Leopard, Leopard
- Bootcamp Win7 64bit
- ("native") Win7 64bit
- ("native") Win7 32bit
- other Win-Versions (like XP and Vista in either 32bit or 64bit builds) should work, too
To iPhone 4S- and iPad 3-Users: iOS 6.0 has been released! Do not attempt to update to iOS 6 if you like to jailbreak. The downgrade-loophole has been closed!
If you want to re-restore your iDevice for whatever reason to iOS 5.1.1 (for e.g. heavy issues, battery drain..etc...) it has to be already on iOS 5.1.1 ! Only then you will be able to re-restore 5.1.1 . Of you course you will need your iOS 5.1.1 bobbs/tickets/shsh !
How to perform a CLEAN RESTORE, which can be jailbroken with "Absinthe 2.0.4" afterwards:
My proposals have to be applied BEFORE you actually attempt to jailbreak with "Absinthe 2.0.4"!
Recommendations and Precautions:
(!!!Before & During the restore- AND jailbreak-process!!!)
- always use the original Apple-USB-Sync-Cable
- always disconnect EVERY USB-device except the iDevice you want to jailbreak
- always connect the iDevice DIRECTLY to the jailbreaking-computer (NO USB-hubs or anything like it, NO dockingstation)
- always make sure the iDevice is fully charged ("my" absolute minimum: "half of the battery" left)
- always use latest iTunes
- always make sure iTunes has access to the internet, or that you have at least a "TSS-server" or "shsh-server" running (like "TinyUmbrella") which makes iTunes think it is communicating with Apple's servers. If you use a firewall, make sure it does not block iTunes.
- always DISABLE every password/-code or sim card protection on your iDevice (you can re-enable them again after the jailbreak)
- iPhone and iPad+Cellular- users: leave your SIM-Card in the iPhone/iPad and temporarily disable Sim-Code-Protection and Pin-Protection -> it comes handy for accelerated activation
- it is always a good idea to restart your computer (no matter if Mac or PC/Windows) before you begin to restore or to jailbreak.
(My Mac-Computers tend to behave strangely with the newest builds of "Java" and "Flash-Player". "Java" is used in many programs. For e.g. with "JDownloader" or printing with "Deutsche-Post-DHL-Online-Franking-Poststamps-Printing" . Flash-Player is used for example with "YouTube" and such services. Always keep your Flash-Player up-to-date!)
So, restart and do not use any other programs before finishing with the jailbreak "Absinthe 2.0.4" or the "restore-process"!
- Consider to temporarily disable any "auto-starting" or "auto-launching" programs, which are started with your "Operating-System" for e.g. : "Antivirus-Programs, Nero, Power DVD, Adobe" and likewise !
- General advice for Windows-/PC- users: Run ALL iTunes and iPhone/iPod/iPad related software as administrator (-> "right click" your mouse and choose "run as administrator")
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now, if you are sure you have considered and applied the "Recommendations and Precautions" from the top, follow these simple steps in order to perform a "CLEAN RESTORE", which can be jailbroken by "Absinthe" afterwards:
1) Restore the iDevice from scratch via latest iTunes with an All-New-Fresh iOS 5.1.1 (simply resetting "contents and settings" is NOT enough for some iDevices)
iPhone 4 GSM -users: Make sure you restore to the current "iOS 5.1.1 - 9B208" Firmware.
2) When iTunes recognizes the iDevice after the completion of the restore-process, proceed by setting up as NEW iPad/iPhone/iPod touch!
3) Do NOT setup/configure your Wifi/Wlan-Network when going through the "Slide-to-setup-menue" <- I don't really know how to call it ; The iPad/iPhone/iPod brings it on after the first start-up.
Don't configure anything. Whenever possible, for e.g. with "iCloud" or "Register your iPhone/iPod/iPad", SKIP it!
Again: Remember to set up as NEW iDevice!
4) iPhone- and iPad+Cellular- users have to WAIT for the "successful activation-message" in the iTunes-window. iTunes will be stating something like: "Your iPhone/iPad is activated...". If you see it, THEN and ONLY then, proceed to the last step!
Again: If iTunes asks, then set up as NEW iPhone/iPad
iPod- and iPad Wifi- users will just see the normal "iPod/iPad-General-Information-Screen" in the iTunes-Window. If you see it, you are good to proceed.
Again: If iTunes asks, then set up as NEW iPod/iPad
5) Perform the Jailbreak "Absinthe 2.0.4" and follow the "Absinthe 2.0.4 How-to" like shown in Post #1 (the opening post) by "SitlayKing". Start with step "3." !
Solutions for some iTunes errors
If you keep getting errors (including "ERROR 21") with "iTunes" or "Absinthe 2.0.4" still continues to fail, your best bet should be this:
For Mac-Users:
- Check for "(Apple-) Software Updates". If there are updates -> download and install them.
- Go to Programs -> Utilities -> Disk Utilities -> select your Mac OS X-Partition -> Select "Repair Permissions" and let the Mac do the trick -> afterwards repeat the same with "Repair-Volume"
- Continue with the step "For Mac- and Windows-Users:"
For Windows- users:
- Start the "Apple Software-Update"-program and install the iTunes- and iPhone/iPod/iPad related software and updates
- General advice: run ALL iTunes and iPhone/iPod/iPad related software as administrator (-> right click and choose "run as administrator")
- Continue with the next step "For Mac- and Windows-Users:"
For Mac- and Windows- users:
- Create a new user-account in Mac OS X or Windows (depends what computer you are on) with administrator's rights, before you restore to the iOS 5.1.1 ! The "guest-account" will not work for you. It needs to be with administrative rights. After you created the new user account follow my guide like written above.
Make sure sure you really stick to all precautions, recommendations and steps I have given you at the beginning. Often very small negligences will result in failure.
Simply re-do the whole restore-procedure, starting with "Step 1)", using the newly created user account !
Advanced solutions for various issues
If you are still reading this, -after you have gone through the red and yellow written advice- because the restore didn't work for you, I suggest you do this:
Software-related:
- use "TinyUmbrella's SSH- and shsh-server" instead of the "iTunes-built-in-server"
- try the "iREB r5" -tool (made by "iH8sn0w), especially if you want to restore a custom-firmware with modded "baseband" -configuration
- try if "custom-firmwares" work for you
- try one of the "UP-TO-DATE / CURRENT" version of these jailbreak-tool-alternatives in the FOLLOWING order:
a) "Redsn0w"
b) "cinject"
c) "PwnageTool"
d) "Sn0wbreeze"
e) "iFaith"
Hardware-related:
- use "DFU-Mode" to restore ("How-To-DFU-Mode" can be found further down in this thread @ iTunes error "20, 21 and 3194", see either step "4) to 7) for Windows-users" or step "5) to 9) for OSX-users" )
- try different computer
- try different Operating System
- and last but not least: if possible try another original Apple-USB-Sync-Cable
For Mac users there is another (possible) fix:
You should try this ONLY if your machine is acting-up all crazy and if you are desperate enough to try. It is called the: "PRAM + NVRAM" -Reset. In my case it fixed several issues (especially after "Apple-Combo-Updates") like: Not working sound-card, not working wifi-sync with iTunes, other iTunes related issues, blocked foto-stream and such. However, it should really be your last call and you should have backed up your important stuff. If you really choose to perform this "PRAM + NVRAM"-Reset, then you should seriously consider to reinstall your OS X at a future date, when you have enough spare time to do so, because there might be a flaw in your OS X which is not good!
After you have gone through the "PRAM + NVRAM"-Reset return to the "For Mac- and Windows- users:"-advice and start from there.
How to do a "PRAM + NVRAM" -Reset on Mac OS X:
-> close all running programs
-> disconnect all hubs, printers, docks...simply everything...
-> connect an USB-Keyboard (wireless/bluetooth keyboards will not work)
-> if you happen to have a "MacBook" of some sort, connect the "Mag-SafePower-Charger" (or in simple words: Connect it to electrical-power)
-> disable the "Lion-Resume"-function temporarily
-> turn on your speakers and adjust the volume to a level, on which you can clearly distinguish system-sounds (you will need them for the process)
-> restart your Mac
-> as soon as the screen goes dark/shuts off IMMEDIATELY press the follwing keys at the same time: "alt + cmd + r + p"
-> keep holding them until you hear the "apple-welcome-bleep-sound" for the 2nd time!!! !!! Yes, 2 times !!!
-> then release the keys
-> the Mac will boot up like usual. That's it, the reset is done.
SMC-Reset:
(one of the last counter-measures I could think of)
Please read and understand what a SMC-Reset is and what it does.
Personally I only consider it for "Mac OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.x" users, but maybe you get lucky.
Since a number of users run into the iTunes error "20, 21 and 3194" here is one possible solution:
Windows-users:
1) Navigate to : C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts
2) In "hosts" delete this entry: 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
3) Then try to restore again using "DFU-Mode"
You get into "DFU-Mode" by doing this:
4) Connect your iDevice to your PC or Mac via USB cable and launch iTunes.
5) Hold down the Home+Power button for 10 seconds.
6) After 10 seconds, release the "power button" but keep holding the "home button" until iTunes detects your iPhone in recovery mode.
Once your iDevice is in DFU mode, you should see nothing on its screen. It should be completely blank.
7) Proceed with " Step 1)"
Mac-users:
1) Use "TinkerTool" to show "hidden- and system- files".
2) Navigate to your hosts file: It is in Macintosh HD/etc/hosts.
3) Add the following lines to the very bottom/end of the hosts file:
" 74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com"
4) Safe your changes and quit "hosts file"
5) Then use "DFU-Mode" to restore. You get there by doing this:
6) Connect your iDevice to your PC or Mac via USB cable and launch iTunes.
7) Hold down the Home+Power button for 10 seconds.
8) After 10 seconds, release the "power button" but keep holding the "home button" until iTunes detects your iPhone in recovery mode.
Once your iDevice is in DFU mode, you should see nothing on its screen. It should be completely blank.
9) Proceed with " Step 1)"
1.) Download Absinthe 2.0.4 from post #1
2.) Right click on the Absinthe icon and select “Show Package Contents”
3.) Navigate to the Contents/MacOS folder and right click on Absinthe 10.6 and select "Open With…Terminal"
4.) This will invoke the GUI interface of Absinthe 2.0.4 ! Now you can proceed with the jailbreak like described in the tutorials / instructions.
Absinthe version compatible with "OS X -ML":
Sinful-Member "predator" has provided a helpful post. So check it out and download the modified "Absinthe" -Version. Please, don't forget to press his "Thanks-button"!
SiNfuL iPhone - View Single Post - Absinthe 2.0.4 Released {iPad2,4 is now supported}
Absinthe still won't open:
Mountain Lion (well, technically it is "Gatekeeper") will check it's security settings to see what sorts of apps are allowed to launch.
Located in the "General" tab of the "Security & Privacy" preference pane is a setting called “Allow applications downloaded from,” with three options:
- Anywhere: This choice uses the same set of rules as every previous version of Mac OS X. If an app isn’t known malware and you approve it, it opens.
- Mac App Store: When this choice is selected, any apps not downloaded from the Mac App Store will be rejected when you try to launch them.
- Mac App Store and identified developers: This is the new default setting in Mountain Lion. In addition to Mac App Store apps, it also allows any third-party apps that have been signed by an identified developer to run.
So, make sure you enable/choose the setting "Anywhere", otherwise "Absinthe" can NOT be run!
SMC -Reset (System Management Controller -Reset):
This fix is intended for those users who are on "OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.x)" and are facing a weird behavior of their Mac-Computers.
Other "OS X- Version-Users" might as well test, if their problem is solved -> but I doubt that it will, since this fix focuses on a failure which might appear when updating to "OS X - ML"!
It deals with quite a lot of system-glitches which I had after updating. It Works for ALL Mac/Apple -computers!
A few of those issues the "SMC-Reset" could solve are:
- SSD problems
- Battery issues
- Several Hard-Drive issues
- All sorts of PowerNap-problems
- Programs have persistent errors (even after “fresh” re-installations)
- The computer's fans run at high speed although the computer is not experiencing heavy usage and is properly ventilated.
- The computer doesn't respond to the power button when pressed.
- A portable Mac doesn't appear to respond properly when you close or open the lid.
- The computer sleeps or shuts down unexpectedly.
- The computer is running unusually slowly although it is not experiencing abnormally high CPU utilization.
You have to stick precisely to the instructions. If you skip one single step you might run into terrible problems!
This is how you do it.
Before actually resetting the SMC you HAVE to cover these steps:
1. Press Command + Option + Escape to force quit any application that is not responding.
2. Put your Mac to sleep by choosing the Apple menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing "Sleep". Wake the computer after it has gone to sleep.
3. Restart your Mac by choosing the Apple menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing "Restart".
4. Shut down your Mac by choosing the Apple menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing "Shut Down".
5. Unplug the MagSafe power adapter from the Mac and the wall power socket for at least 30 seconds. Then re-connect it again! Now choose your Mac-computer-model from the Guide below and continue with the correct guide for your computer.
For all MacBook and MacBook Pro WITH REMOVABLE BATTERIES:
1. Shut down the computer.
2. Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the computer, if it's connected.
3. Remove the battery.
4. Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
5. Release the power button.
6. Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.
7. Press the power button to turn on the computer.
For all MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air WITH NON-REMOVABLE BATTERIES:
1. Shut down the computer.
2. Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
3. On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
4. Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
5. Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
For all MacPro, iMac, Mac Mini, xServe; simply all desktop computers:
1. Shut down the computer.
2. Unplug the computer's power cord.
3. Wait fifteen seconds.
4. Attach the computer's power cord.
5. Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: For Intel-based Xserve computers that are not responding, you can shut down locally, or by using remote commands, or by pressing and holding the power button for five seconds.
That's it you are done!
Now you are ready to restore or jailbreak. Start with "Step 1)"!
Still encountering problems with Absinthe on "OS X ML" ?
-> Well then try using the current Version of "redsnow" .
My Line-Up of iDevices and the system I successfully restored and jailbroke with :
iDevices: iPhone 4S, iPod touch 4G, iPad 1+Cellular ; all on "fresh" iOS 5.1.1 firmware
Operating Systems: OS X Mountain Lion, Bootcamp Win7 64bit
Computers: MacBook Air 2010 and MacBook Pro 2010
...whenever I stumble across more pieces of important information for the "Absinthe-Jailbreak-iTunes-Puzzle", I will add them here. So if the suggestions didn't work for you, check back a few days later, maybe I found some more interesting facts...
Good Luck
If it aint broke dont fix it.
The firmware is 9B206 instead of 9B506.  The updates are mainly for 9B208 for iPhone 4 and iPad2,4.
see changelog. it says ipad 2,4 is NOW supported. if you don't know what the ipad2,4 is, probably you don't have it and you don't need the info about it.
instead being an ass i will tell you what ipad2.4 is...
"Although the iPad 2,1 and its 3G brethren all used a 45nm Apple A5 SoC, the iPad 2,4 uses a die-shrunk 32nm version. The performance remains the same, but the die is much smaller. This isn't however just a normal die shrink, as Apple is using Samsung's 32nm high-k + metal gate LP transistors for this new A5 die."
Lolmall the hard work the debs put into this cause is just amazing! Why does apple even bother, their futile attempts , at keeping us out is nothing more than them pissing in the wind, if you ask me the jailbreak community should be the ones designing iOS, not apple. Chronic Dev all the way FTW!
