iOS6 Amber Alert feature allows the government to spy on all iDevices

iOS developers who were seeded iOS 6 beta continue to discover new features in iOS 6 that Apple didn't mention or showcase at the WWDC 2012 Keynote.

CNET reports that iOS 6 includes the ability to receive U.S. government alerts via push notifications during an "emergency" or "disaster".

The new feature allows users to receive alerts from local, state, and federal officials through the initiative FEMA's Integrated Public Alert and Warning System. Users can also receive Amber Alerts - a child abduction alert issued upon the suspected abduction of a child.

The National Weather Service is also expected to start issuing Wireless Emergency Alerts by the end of June, which means that users will be able to receive weather related alerts on their iPhones.

According to folks at Emergency Management who were the first to notice this new feature report that it will be available on all iOS devices that are compatible with iOS 6. As you can see in the screenshot below, you will get an option to opt out via the Settings app. There will be toggles to enable or disable Emergency alerts and Amber alerts.

I hope ppl can read between the lines of this as the hidden agenda of this feature is to give the gov't capabilities to spy on all iDevice users and I for one will NEVER use iOS 6 (I will switch to android before I allow the gov't to spy on me)

So long as it's a PUSH only system, I have no problem.
If the system is two-way, then I have ethical and legal questions.

It's true what another poster said before about being a bit overly paranoid. HOWEVER, I rather be paranoid and trust with proof than be a sheep!

So thanks for the info.

The problem is JUST THAT! how do YOU or I know if it is in fact only a "ONE WAY", a simple script can create an "off / on" toggle and lead to nothing. How are WE, YOU, I to know for sure. Are we to trust our government blindly?

Agree with you on this, but again, how sure are you about your "push" statement? have you seen the code to this? even if you, I or anyone else without the correct know-how, how are we to decipher and tell you without a DOUBT that, that is all it is; a "PUSH" notification.

Remember that on a previous IOS, the iPhone was tracking you all over and no-one knew until it was brought out and all of the sudden it was "taken" out or "disabled" in subsequent IOS updates...

again, thank you poster for at least bringing it up, I trust with proof.

Completely unnecessary "feature"! The more I read about iOS 6 the less interested I am in it.
All these so called new features are usually at the expense of our privacy. I'm on ios 5.0.1 and I still miss ios 4x lol

Same here. iOS 6 really is starting to get less appealing with each day that passes. The only thing I even like about iOS 6 is the Passbook app, so I'm hoping that it can get ported over to 5.1.1.

Viva la vida 5.1.1!

I certainly hope so. I mean, we did manage to get Siri ported over (as well as all the missing iOS 6 Maps features in the 3GS & 4), so it should be possible.

Hell all I like is the new Appstore which is cosmetic. Only thing I ever really like in these updates is cosmetics.

And no it's not paranoia! Assume you are being watched soon as you step out your house. Hell I even have a sticker over my webcam!

Thanks for the info, back to iOS5 iGo.

You are a little late if you thought the gov't hasn't started spying. The USA has the worlds largest spying HQ in the WORLD. #NWO in commence.

Yes I understand the gov't has had spying capabilities via satellites for a few decades now at least (Nothing we can do about that)

I'm simply trying to inform the uneducated regarding the matter of gov't lying to the public to give up what privacy we have left in order to feel "safer" (which again is simply a bunch of lies in order for us to give up what liberties we have left)

The Patriot Act is a good example of this (The act states that the gov't now has the ability to detain, torture and/or kill any citizen under the "suspicion" that the person MIGHT be a "terrorist")...

the way this ACT is worded ANYBODY can be suspected as a terrorist (Have you ever gone through security checks at an airport only to be searched extra thoroughly because on your flight ticket it states that you're a suspected terrorist? I know I have, TWICE!)

I can show many more examples of this but I'm trying to keep the message short and simiple...

Today it's monitor our cellphones so that we may feel "safer" from terrorists/criminals.... tommorow it'll be computer chip implants so that we may feel "safer" from terrorists/criminals (at that point 100% of your privacy will be GONE)

Most ppl will disregard this warning and that's fine, I know most will not care for this particular thread nor be able to understand the ramifications that lie down the road for the next generation(s)...

***The mentioned feature sounds "useful" but it's going to have more negative long-term effects than positive ones that I will guarantee***

Thanks for everybody that read, believers and non-believers

Some of you are so paranoid it's actually amusing. Expecting to have your info private nowadays is naive. Just accept the fact that privacy means nothing now and "big brother" or that big bad corporation called "Apple" isn't out to get you.

How can you call us "paranoid" when you just acknowledged yourself that our privacy has been thoroughly invaded?

Yes I understand our privacies is for the most part gone, and I don't consider Apple to be "Big Brother" (that's a whole nother topic )

But I feel obligated to inform as many as I can of what's "really" happening behind the curtains of these new policies that the gov't is shoving down the ppl's throat.

Remember SOPA & CISPA acts? The government's agenda there is to control/monitor all internet activities under the mask that it's to stop PIRACY (this is going to work as well as the "War on Drugs" -- which is an obvious failure at the expense of BILLIONS of tax dollars)

And I'm not talking out of fear that "they" are trying to get me, I'm talking out of fear that America is going to take it up the ass when 100% of our freedoms and liberties are abolished

Privacy is not for the most part gone...it's completely gone. I'm fine with that. I don't give a shit who has my info or what they do with it. Why the hell would I? Just for the sake of principle? Nah...not worth it.

I hope you know that the government can and already is spying on your device. iOS6 just makes it public. So you can go ahead and refuse to use iOS6 (really makes no sense but hey) it doesn't matter.

I'm just saying...it's naive to think privacy exists in today's world. Just like its naive to think they can't spy on your device using iOS5 but they can with iOS6. People just need to accept the reality that our rights will be limited to next to nothing and protecting privacy is a losing battle. But at the end of the day, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Who am I to say otherwise

Yes it's been well documented that our iPhones have been tracked in the past... (the fact that this is going public is the gov't testing the waters to see if the ppl will accept this fact openly and if any opposition of the idea will occur)

I don't care what info of mine they possess either... what's coming in the future (Police State & Destruction of the U.S. Constitution) is what bothers me

I disagree with your logic that ppl should just bend over and continue to take it in the ass accepting the fact that our freedoms are almost gone and NOT fight back (it's this kind of thinking as to why this country's in the deep shit that it is already)

Just helping the cause by trying to spread awareness of what the gov't is really trying to do since most ppl are brain-dead sheep

IMHO I would think something like an Amber or Emergency Alert system would push to your device based on GPS. An earthquake in Cali. is pretty silly to be warned about if I'm in Florida.

I would assume that if push is on it would use your GPS to ping the server if you change from one state to another, then just pushes what is relevent till enter a new state
and it would then update to push if for that state, till your phone says "Now I'm over here. What's up?"

Or I'm totally wrong and we should be cautious of any company called SkyNet.

If I am wrong I will meet those that took the red pill in Zion.

True, a standard earthquake in cali is not worthy in the form of a push alert, but when the "Big Quake" turns Cali into an island of destruction and further cripples our economy that'll be a different story

A few others and I are waiting for the Stock Market to crash again (notice how it's spiking UP & DOWN harder than ever? One day it's going to spike down so hard that it's gonna "crash" for a good while)

A stock market crash today will make the one in 1929 look like PEANUTS in comparison and will be reason enough to send out a "National PUSH Alert" and when all hell breaks loose with crimes and suicides and Martial Law is declared ppl will be neatly informed via "National PUSH Disaster" notification...

I hope that I'm wrong and none of this will happen, but my years of independent research (and a few others) + what has already occured says that's what's coming...

***NOTE: Laws have been passed under the noses of the public over the decades by a few Presidents (via executive orders) that in the event Martial Law is declared, the U.S. Constitution will be declared void and FEMA will take over the Federal Government as the new power in charge (and FEMA has their own "laws" that we're all going to be living under--I've read those laws and they're not favorable to the ppl at all I'm afraid to say)***
