upgraded iP4 to custom ios 5.1.1 and unlocked with ultrasn0w but can imessage or facetime

Device: iphone 4 GSM
ios: 5.1.1 (9B206) custom firmware
Jailbreak: Redsn0w 0.9.14b2
Unlock: Ultrsn0w

Hi guys I was hoping someone could please help me with my iphone imessage activation problem..
I upgraded my iphone 4 BB 01.59.00 the other day with custom ios I created with redsn0w, since updating I have not been able to send imessage or facetime.
I have tried creating custom firmware with both sn0wbreeze and redsn0w but neither will allow me to send imessage.
I have even tried just creating preserve BB ios with sn0wbreeze and then jailbreaking with redsn0w but that didnt work either..
I have noticed that after I jailbreak and unlock my iphone, that my iphone wont recognize my phone number until I turn airplane mode on/off

sometimes depending on which tool i use redsn0w or sn0wbreeze, I find that imessage wont activate at all, that depends on the tool I use, but even if it activates, I still cant send imessages.

I have tried creating/jailbreak & unlock on 2 different pc's just in case it was my pc, but that didnt help because I still encountered the same problems...

just wondering if I have missed any steps I dont know about... I really need some help please...

I have one more option to try, I was thinking of trying to create custom firmware with redsn0w and then using absinthe to jailbreak it. Then ofc install ultrasn0w to unlock, but I dont know if this will harm my baseband...

any advice please...

Thanks

Also just to add I have the latest itunes installed and pc updates are up to date too, turned off firewall and AV too.

Here's the method I used to activate my iPhone 4 facetime on 5.0.1 on tmobile usa, not sure if the same still applies to 5.1.1. This method was not invented by me, I just copied it to a txt file and saved it since it worked for me and credit should be given to whoever that found this method.

What you'll need:

-iOS 5+
-iFunbox (use it to backup the carrier.plist if anything goes wrong)
-iFile (for editing the carrier.plist)

1.Either activate your phone with SAM or your original carrier's sim.

2. Go to (CarrierLab.bundle or 00101 folder) /System/Library/Carrier Bundles/iPhone/00101/carrier.plist
-back up the file carrier.plist (just in case)

Now edit the carrier.plist using iFile. Add "011" in front of "447786205094" so it'll look like this

< key >PhoneNumberRegistrationGatewayAddress< string >+011447786205094< /string >

3.Now go to /System/Library/Carrier Bundles/iPhone/Unknown.bundles/carrier.plist

ADD -> "+011" To all the 10 numbers you see under:
< key >PhoneNumberRegistrationGatewayAddress< /key >

save and exit iFile. Turn on Facetime and iMessage and wait until they activate.

Here's the important part. Once they are activated, go back to the edited carrier.plist's and remove the 011s you added, otherwise when you restart your phone, you'll likely lose the network settings tabs, at least it happened to me.

Once you remove all the 011s, restart your phone and see if facetime and imessage are still activated and if all the network setting tabs are still there. If everything is good and well, then congrats. But take note, you can't deactivate facetime and imessage, but if you somehow did it by accident, you gotta go through this whole thing to activate them again.

And oh, if this method doesn't work on the first try. Restore the carrier.plist's, restart the phone and try again.

HI AceCooper
Thanks for the advice, I am not sure how would I activate my sim with sam, I dont have the original sim carrier so that option is off the table, but yeah I am not sure how to activate with sam. I didnt unlock with sam previously because of my baseband being 01.59.00 I didnt think I would need it.
I have tried this step
Code:
http://yuwienetwork.blogspot.in/2012/04/fix-facetime-imessage-waiting-for.html
which many people say it works but I cant get passed step 6, because when I get to step 6 itunes wont recognise my sim no more. meaningI cant move on to step 7, because I dont get the wildcard option..

Just to let you know, that after JB and unlock I am able to do everything with my iphone except imessage and facetime.. since I can make calls etc, does that mean my iphone is activated and I can move on to step 2 in the guide u posted above.

Thanks again for the help...

Same issue. Imessage worked on my jailbroken / rocky racoon'd 3GS on Tmo.

Upgraded to a factory unlocked / jailbroken 4 on Tmo, and I cannot get Imessage to work even though it says both it and Facetime are activated.

Currently running IOS 5.1.1.

Imessage neither works on Wifi or Cellular Network. Called Tmobile to verify MMS, MMSC, and APN settings and all are correct. I can receive and send SMS & MMS, but cannot send iMessage. Not sure about Facetime either.
