Apple Releases iOS 4.4.1 For Apple TV Users

Just a week ago, Apple released the iOS 4.4 firmware update for the Apple TV 2G. Today, the Cupertino giant seems to be pushing out iOS 4.4.1 build 9A335A, which likely brings several bug fixes and minor performance improvements to the table.

Last week’s iOS 4.4. firmware update brought several new features to the Apple TV 2G including: AirPlay Mirroring, National Hockey League, Photo Stream, Wall Street Journal Live, Trailers, and many improvements. Before the update, iOS 4.3 build 8F455 for the Apple TV 2G was released back in August, which brought many features such as the ability to stream purchased TV shows from iTunes and the option to browse and stream video from Vimeo.

As of right now, there is no official change log for today’s firmware (iOS 4.4.1) available yet, but as mentioned before, it’s likely minor bug fixes and performance improvements (indicated from the 4.4.1 up from 4.4). It comes in at 377.06 MB compared to last week’s 377.0 MB, which is another indicator that not much has been added.

sure it can be jailbroken tethered once pwnagtool bundles are available

for the untether I guess we are waiting for the 4s jailbreak to drop
and hope the exploit burned in that release can be used for an untether with other devices....

the last untether released was using safron the jailbreakme 3.0 exploit.

ok maybe i should try and buy them this weekend, and hopefully the ones they have in stock are an older firmware...

Best to buy them and save your SHSH files so if 4.4.1 gets jailbroken then you can use that firmware.

Seas0nPass has been updated to support a TETHERED jailbreak of the new AppleTV 4.4 (iOS 5) software released on 10/12/2011 (also supported is the 4.4.1 update released on 10/17/11).

I would wait for the untethered one. I'm using 4.3 and its working fine, plus for my tweaks like xbmc and other plugins are NOT compatible with 4.4.x

4.4.x suxs as of now, since nothing works with it.

i never turn my ATV off

not even into standby..

my phone is also never turned off

the TV i do turn off when I am not watching it !!!

so a tethered jailbreak should not be a problem

did you try the latest XBMC nightly ??

It sucks for the untethered part but I really want it since it has NHL Gamecenter on it!!!

If I get that worked i'm probably gonna cancel my TV subscription.

When you download SeasonPass (latest Version for 4.4.1) it is gonna be for 4.3 cfw,
therefor you need to download ATV 4.4.1 OFW from Apple and the latest SeasonPass mentioned above, now How to make 4.4.1 CFW tethered!!!!!

1- Open SeaSonPass and then...
2- hold Shift (windows) and click on create IPSW then...
3- select 4.4.1 ipsw from the popup window and click open
and SeasonPass will do the rest.

I bought one from Amazon on Friday which arrived today (7th Nov 11) it came with 4.3 firmware

I just bought one and it has 4.3 firmware on it. What is "Airplay Mirroring"? is it something worth upgrading for?

Airplay mirroring its on iPad 2 on iOS 5 and iPhone 4S not on iPhone 4.

So you have two choices either have the ATV2 tethered...

or have it untethered.

Since airplay mirroring is great but it doesnt work on my iPhone 4 yet..unless you have both the iPhone and iPad 2 then its worth it....

Cons n pros are what I already mentioned.

For me its just not worth it.

Tried this and when it goes to restore, itunes reports you are not authorized the version.

Had to go back to 4.3.
