iPhone 4 - Forced OTA update?

I have an iPhone 4 that was updated to IOS6 without my doing it. How is this possible? I lost my jailbreak and IOS6 sucks.

What the hell happened? I am on Verizon and was on 5.1.1 at the time. I plugged my phone in for a charge via usb last evening, and woke this morning with my phone updated. I have iTunes set not to wifi sync, manual updates only.

I didn't know this was possible? Can someone enlighten me?

You can't update via OTA when you're jailbroken, it cancels or doesn't boot up afterwards. It's not possible to do. I don't believe that it just magically did it

It is possible, just read the other threads when the dog/girlfriend/aliens udated thier phones "automatically" lol

I can remember in a thread ages ago when OTA updates came out and it was confirmed a jailbroken phone could NOT updated OTA, either by accident or deliberate press of the "update" button.

I assume the only way a jailbroken phone can be updated is via itunes.

So unless the OP has a brother/friend who clicked update on itunes for a laugh, theres no way this can happen.....

If you were jailbroken then obviously you can "downgrade" your phone. You DID save your blobs from 5x didnt you? So then restore to 5x, jailbreak, and install the update blocker/hider

You may not have done it purposely but somehow or some way it was confirmed to update. Maybe you accidentally hit enter when not looking or hit the button after the screen was off. Nobody is blaming you for it, it is your phone not theirs. It is just impossible to update without confirming it and as stated, no OTA on JB... Hopefully you have the SHSH and can go back but that sucks you lost your tweaks and shit, pain in the ass to do it all over again.

The last two posts were constructive. Thanks for that. And yes, I am confident that I can jailbreak again as I have my blobs and thanks. My major concern was that it happened at all. I hadn't touched the phone since the night before yet it somehow updated which really has me confused.

As for my tweaks, no problem as I am always changing stuff anyway.

Perhaps I should try the tethered jailbreak as I am already in IOS6. My friend tried it with his iPhone4 and the break went ok but each time he tried to open Cydia it crashed.

yeah but your asking impossible questions, how could anyone know "how" you downgraded when its not actually possible OTA when jailbroken and you need to confirm when using itunes?

iOS 6 sucks, but remember when you go back to 5x, install that update blocker / hider, and when you plug your phone into itunes and it says an update was found, then check that box that says "don't ever ever ever ask me about this update again, ever"

IOS6 does suck in my opinion. Some things are better some not. Mostly it's just different and that's the part that sucks for me. Truthfully I would rather keep IOS5 but hey, it is what it is. I'll deal ....

I had same issue once I restored 5.1.1 in my 4s so I can get my factory unlock. After I did & jail broke I opened up updater & was trying to ota 25% the split second I opened it up.

Try it bet it happens.

I hit nothin so I believe it is possible to launch itself & if did how was it already 25% complete?

I couldn't cancel it so I just went & shut my wifi off since it wouldn't quit.

Quickly I installed update killer & rebooted & all was fine.

& no wasn't my fuckin cat & I did not hit update I had 3 people over my shoulder watching restore so they could do the same so wasn't imagining shit.

Fucking IOS 6 Failed so bad that Tim Cook had to publicly apologize for that shit. It has nothing to do with a Jailbreak at this point, because the IOS its self is a pile of shit! As we speak Crapple is working to put out a 6.x to fix all the bugs and bullshit. They spend so much time bitching about what Samsung is doing, and trying to counter a JB that they can't make hardware or firmware that is worth a fuck anymore.

As with any other Jailbreak, I am sure the majority will upgrade just to be on the newer IOS. You can bank on one thing though, there will be a slue of tweaks and shit needed to get it on point! I just look at all the shit I have to add on my phone from Cydia every time I get a new one, and with every IOS that list gets longer!

So please feel free to list all the reasons why IOS 6 is so great.... Don't worry, we will all wait.........

iOS 6 came with ip5 so I have gotten to admit that it is the best OS for this device thats it and thats why I said it, since there is no way around it or we cant do anything about it....

Moreover, I know Tim did apologize that was cuz of Maps issue.

Jasmine an Youtube alternative, works fine, then for Maps, I hardly used Google maps, even on 5.x since of it suxs fucking data so much, might as well use Navigon or TomTom since it uses GPS and maps are preloaded!

So what else, oh yeah the tweaks man, I know I have will have to check and make sure each one is upgraded for 6.x as we did for 5.x but hey thats what happens when we move from 3.x to 4.x to 5.x, etc any higher revision.
