Easy way to use a custom SMS tone

No SSH involved, no need to use a computer, you can do everything through your phone. Simply go to cydia and install UnlimTones. This app is mostly meant for downloading ringtones but on a prevous update, it can now also be used to select custom SMS tones.
The first attached picture shows how at the bottom you can choose the option to Manage Tones
The second pic is what it should show when you choose that option (i have the mario coin sound chosen as an example)
Also, you select the SMS sound you want through that app NOT by going to Settings>Sounds>New Text Message. You can choose any sound you want under settings, but the tone you choose on the UnlimTones app is what will be heard when you get a text

did you scroll down? there is usually an advertisement that blocks/hides this option. click 'x' on the add or just scroll down and it should be visible

There is nothing to scroll sadly >-<
It only gives me four options:
- Make ringtone
- Manage ringtones
- Watch phone demo
- Watch PC demo

Thx will try this.. it say in the info that u must install ffmpeg from cydia to use the sms features. So u know

can you assign custom sms tones to a specific contact like bite sms? I have unlimtones installed but never bothered with the sms part of it.

unfortunately no you can not. you can only change the default sms tone for everybody

O well that sucks, bite SMS let's you assign custom created ringtones to specific individuals!! Nice tutorial tho!!

yea i know but there's still quite a large amount of people that are not on 4.X firmware yet and with bitesms you need that so anyone that hasnt upgraded to it then they can at least change their default sms tone for now with this because it will still work with older firmwares

with bitesms installed, unlimtones can't change sms ringtone but only default ringtone?

I have the Homer Simpson D'OH text tone with Bitesms and it worked fine. Now all of a sudden it doesn't play anymore.
I haven't upgraded or anything lately.
iPhone4 4.33
Any ideas how to fix?

i downloaded already the sms tones, but if i delete the unlimtones and ffmpeg.. the tones still working or not?

You can replace SMS tones via WinterBoard.

Tones name> UISounds> in sms-recieved1.caf
in sms-recieved2.caf.
and so on

Just rename the tone to "in sms-recieved1.caf"

You can see which tone you want to replace exactly in system/Library/Audio/UISounds

Or you could simply replace a tone rite from within that directory. The benefit of using WinterBoard would be that you can easily switch between the tone you made, and the stock tone.
