I haven't kept up with IOS stuff for a while. Do shsh blobs not work anymore? Can't you stay on 11.4.1 and update to 12.1 later if you save your shsh blobs? Or does it not work that way anymore?

A few ways:

a) Blobsaver
https://github.com/airsquared/blobsaver

b) If you're already jailbroken, you can grab SYSTEM INFO off Cydia and it will automatically save the blob:
System Info · Cydia
Swipe Left on ECID in settings.
Set boot-nonce, save shsh, battery info etc

c) Telegram:
Step 1 First, plug your iPhone into your computer and open iTunes. You will have to recover the ECID number of your iPhone. To do this, go to the summary page of your iOS Device, click the serial number until the ECID appears. Note it somewhere or copy it.

Step 2 Download Telegram on your iPhone (open it and do any configuration)

Step 3 Visit website « https://telegram.me/rjailbreakbot » with your iPhone and add Jailbreak Bot to Telegram. Click SEND MESSAGE, a pop-up will appear asking you to open the page with Telegram, select Open. You are now on the application, press Start Bot.

Step 4 Activate the bot with the message «"/start” (which starts automatically after you press Start Bot).

Step 5 Write the “/shsh” without quotes to start the process. The bot will then ask you to select your device.

Step 6 Now bot will ask you to select an iOS. You need to select iOS 12. After that, it will prompt you to enter the ECID number.

Step 7 Finally, “Jailbreak Bot” will save your SHSH blobs and you can download them using the blue arrow. The complete link will be given just below it.

I too am looking forward to jailbreaking my iPhone 8 but the only downside is Apple CarPlay doesn't work on JB devices unless upgrades have been made.

Sounds about right. Historically, it seemed the most popular times for Jailbreaks to come out were from mid-September to mid-October, and early March (unless I'm remembering wrong). So this may be another early March release.

If you are already jailbreaked, in my personal opinion, stay away from 12.x

As usual you talk out the ass.
Electra for iOS 11.0 - 11.1.2. The first beta for iOS 11.0 - 11.1.2 was released on January 13, 2018.
And was officially released February / 2018

I'm in your shoes, I've upgraded my apple watch to the newest watch os to get the EKG feature & found that I also need to upgrade my phone.

What to do.... upgrade & forget about the jailbreak or stay on 12.1 & forget about the EKG.
Big Decision ahead.

As others, I'm also eager to update my XS Max from 12.0.1 to 12.1, but as a general rule for jailbreakers, always stay on the lowest iOS possible.
So, still thinking while the 12.1 window is open...

I understand your pain but was a easy decision for me as I have a developer account so the jailbreak is not that important I rather have my EKG feature and not going back.
Don't get me wrong I would like to have the jailbreak just not worth loosing my apple feature.

You planning on dying soon?

The EKG thing is a gimmick to me unless you're someone who has a congential heart condition.
