Battery replacement

Forgive me if I overlooked an existing thread on this. I did a search but I could not find anything current.

I have a 6S running 10.2 on the Yalu jailbreak. My problem is the battery will no longer hold a charge.

If i take it in for replacement, will I lose my jailbreak?

Thanks

It depends on where you take it. Apple will update it from my understanding. I had taken my 5s into a repair shop to get the lightning connector port fixed and the battery replaced as well. I informed the techs that I was worried about losing my 9.0.1 jailbreak. They fixed them and replaced the battery with no problem. The jailbreak and all documents were still on the 5s. Just make sure before you take it in and discus it with the techs themselves.

I'll answer my own question in case this comes up again. To be safe, I rebooted my phone to come up in the non-jailbroken state and took it to Batteries Plus. I did not have to restore my phone nor did I lose my jailbreak. All is good. Thanks to Carboncopy for easing my mind beforehand. $69.95 installed took less than 10 minutes.

Yes but not many people should or have the courage to do so. There is a lot you mess up.

Its actually pretty easy to do the only part that you might consider hard is removing the crappy glue under the battery but considering you are changing out the battery anyway and not trying to save it it really not a problem if you damage the old battery taking it out so no big deal.

Battery replacements

Hello, tried the various videos on youtube and by far the hardest part is the glue. Be very careful if using a heat gun. Went to apple store is Atlanta, Ga and waited for an hour just to be told to sent iphone 6 plus to Apple. I think they will not work on jailbroken phones.

I have always replaced my own iPhone batteries. I replaced my iPhone 6 battery for the first time a few months ago. Very easy to do as long as you have the right tools (suction cup to gently pull the screen up, correct screw driver for the outer case and plastic prying tool). Just follow YouTube videos and go very slow and steady.

The glue for the battery is applied by Apple with long adhesive strips. They have little tabs sticking out from the side of the battery that you can pull on to remove them cleanly without fuss. Pull it out slow and steady. It’s a bit like pulling on bubblegum lol. You shouldn’t need a heat gun.

I replaced several batteries on the iPhone 6 plus models and it is pretty easy to do. If you order a battery online it comes with a pry tool and adhesive strips. Just need a heat gun to warm up the back part of the phone where the battery is located and pry away.

It depends on from which shop you take it.

Best to keep an eye on this one.

They even replied to a 3 year old thread with another pointless sentence.

This is either laziness or an attempt to get a post count up.

Commenting on old posts is not against the rules as such but makes me a little suspicious....

A few things of note

One post says "congrats dear" the only people who call people dear are little old ladies or Nigerian email scammers

They claim to have an iPhone 6 on 6.1.3. I didn't realise you could get ios6 on a 2014 phone...

Random posts on ancient threads with 3 word answers that are no benefit to the original question/issue

People joining this forum strangely are nearly always "female" probably being a certain gender increases chances of shenanigans?

Il be watching future posts with popcorn....
