Apple Releases iOS 6 with New Maps App, Facebook Integration, and More [DO NOT UPGRADE!!]

As expected, Apple has just released iOS 6 to the public, making the download available to users of recent iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch models. Users can obtain the update either by connecting their devices to iTunes and clicking the "Check for Update" button or checking for over-the-air updates on their devices via Settings -> General -> Software Update. It may, however, take a few minutes for the update to propagate to all users.

iOS 6 adds over 200 new features, including Apple's own Maps app, Facebook integration, Siri improvements, Apple's new Passbook digital wallet app, and more.

iOS 6 is compatible with the third-generation iPad, iPad 2, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and fourth-generation iPod touch. It will also ship on the iPhone 5, which launches on Friday, and on the fifth-generation iPod touch launching next month.

There is no jailbreak for IOS 6 yet
and also there is no way to downgrade back to IOS 5.1.1
so you better stay on IOS 5.1.1

Neither itunes or OTA are showing any new updates for the UK at the moment, It will be a while before IOS6 is jailbroken so best to keep calm and carry on

1807 and itunes says its now out (uk) my mates getting it as he doesnt bother with jailbreaks. Il see what its like on his tomorrow. Im ignoring the update.

will there be any direct download links for IOS 6? I have IOS 6 GM but when I checked for update there are no updates, couldn't be IOS 6 GM same as IOS 6 Final?

Do you have your blobs? apple doesnt support downgrading so unless you have blobs for current/older firmware your stuck on what you upgrade to (ios6)

have a look in cydia if your unsure what blobs are saved on homescreen.

and if your in doubt, download tinyumbrella and save them NOW! before its too late.

will have to wait for a jailbreak before I can use these features. Nice thing to see is iphone 3GS is still supported .

As long as you have your 5.1.1 blobs, new redsn0w will let you RE-restore to 5.1.1 at will. Even better news for iPad2'ers w/4.3.3 blobs

iPad3, i4S (and iPad2 owners who don’t satisfy #2) will always be able to RE-restore the current 5.x OS that’s already on their device. So if you’re at 5.1.1 when the window closes (and you’ve saved your blobs), you’ll always be able to RE-restore to 5.1.1 again. This makes the 5.1.1 jailbreak a lot less fragile — you don’t have to worry about messing up your install with funky extensions or getting into a boot loop, because you can always RE-restore from 5.1.1 to 5.1.1 again (or from 5.0.1 to 5.0.1 again, etc). But once you fall off the 5.x train by restoring to 6.x, you’ll be stuck there until the next jailbreak.

To say it says DO NOT UPGRADE at the top of the thread, i have 2 iphone 4 so one is just stock,the other i play with-Anyway-tried download from direct link listed- time to download 14 hours 17mins --lol-- Apple (itunes) 19 hours remaining!!! every body in the world is trying to download this!!

Will give it a miss for a bit ---
