I have a feeling Apple may have pushed the line with the X's pricing.
$1000 for an 8 with no home button and a half step back generation AMOLED screen?
I don't see the compelling value.

Nonetheless, I wonder what percentage of the “I’ll NEVER buy a $1000 ‘phone’” crowd still pay the equivalent of $32/gal at Starbucks, $16/gal for bottled water, and $100/mo+ for cable/satellite.

Today i have ordered my new iphone!

a 256gb iphone 7 for 565

i sold my last one as i was holding out to see what the new iphone was going to be like. Now i know, i felt sick that apple was going to ask me for 1149 for a phone with an oled screen, wireless charging and infinity display. I could get a galaxy s8 for half that price!

i was SO hoping for a 512gb version, that might have justified the price, possibly waiting a while for 2nd hand prices to drop, but now i know what apple is offering i see the i7 as MUCH better value.

yes theres the iphone 8 with wireless charging and erm, the usual 33% faster cpu than last year, but the i7 is still shit hot fast.

300 difference and they are all 256gb so il see what happens in 2018

if they do a new SE with oled screen and wireless charging il def upgrade my SE to that.

i just feel that year on year apple are now whacking the price up for no other reason than they can, and when will it end? will we see the first $2000 iphone in 2020?

i can afford to buy the iphone x easily, money isnt a problem, but you have to draw the line somewhere and thats with the X.

unfortunately, the 256gb i7 was 800 brand new, in a year its come down by nearly 200

if the same is for the X, that means this time next year it will be 900!

still way way too expensive...

The iPhone X isn't a bad phone, but it's a far cry from the "revolution" we were promised earlier this year. Looking at it, it gives off the vibe of a phone Apple should have released last year. There's no real "wow" factor.

And as seems to be the consensus, how can they justify that price for tech that's mostly already outdated???

Agree totally with MrBob!!

Am i right in thinking that although the phone can be charged wireless you don't actually get the wireless pad with it and all you get in the box is the normal lightning charger?
So you have to buy on top of the cost of the phone the wireless pad which seems crazy seeing as there are going on so much about this function!

Also for that price i would of expected them to give the wireless ear airpod/bud things or whatever there called with it to sweeten the price but no you still get the wired earbuds!

What is the point of the iphone 8

With the iphone "X", I don't see the point in releasing an Iphone 8. Seems to be just a more expensive version of the Iphone 7.

Seems to be just a need to place a product at a more appropriate price break.

And to think that their epic fail when introducing this X's facial recognition has resulted in wiping billions off the company, its my guess that this will end up as another epic fail due to the price.

It wasn't a fail. The phone has a hiccup, Craig put it down for a moment and went to the backup phone which functioned perfectly, then Craig put the back-up down and used the original for the remainder of the demo.

On the 11th Apple closed at $161.50
On the 12th Apple closed at $160.86

Net change = -$0.64 cents

Apple has less than 900MM shares in the float.

Where is the billions in wiped out market cap you're referring to?

Remember, 12MP cameras are not equal. 8 / X have larger CCDs, better image processing, 4K support, more color gamut, etc. etc. The image engine is much better.

Iphone X is for Xpensive. It's revolutionary in its a ability to take your money and won't even blink.

Yeah outta the box, we can't even listen to music and charge our phone at the same time. Step backwards by a lot.

Wireless....useless unless you are willing to dish out more cash on top of the high price.

More water resistance? Nope who would want to use their iphone on vacation right?

Yeah Face ID is really important... NOPE!

Does anyone here actually LIKE the iPhone X? I haven't seen much positivity about it. Main sticking point seems to be that it's way too expensive (which it is).

Who is planning on getting one? Anyone?

I am actually thinking about getting one of these iPhone X models. I have a 128GB 7 Plus that I've had for a little over 6 months now. I paid $849USD for that. 4K/60fps video recording is huge for me as I have 4K/5K displays in my two TVs and iMac. But without a content creator, these crazy awesome displays haven't really been taken advantage of other than 4K UHDs I've bought or downloaded over the last year or so. The wireless charging thing seems like more of the same catch-up game that Apple has been playing over the last couple years. However, since they adopted an industry standard in the wireless charging department, ( Fucking crazy, amirite?!) I could just go out and buy an elegant and cheap Qi charging pad instead of paying for the AirPower pad or whatever the fuck they are deciding to call it. Honestly, I really think that the price isn't all that high considering the previous model and its features. Also, just because this is all old technology doesn't mean we have a device on the market with ALL of these features in one device. Especially facial tracking and recognition AND wireless charging. Not to mention the one thing that everyone forgets... The Apple ecosystem is fucking HUGE. If only 3% of people with an older Apple device decides to upgrade to the 8/8+/X models, you're looking at nearly 10% of the US population buying one. Not including China and India which are also getting this on launch date.

Just as disclaimer though, I'm skeptical as all hell about this price point. But does anybody else remember Sony's 1995 E3 presentation? They announced their first home game console for $299 (more than $100 less than the immediate competition). This established their market share early on. Then 11 years later, Sony during E3 2006 decided to launch the PS3 for $599 (almost $200 more than the competition). I feel like blurays probably wouldn't have been rushed to the forefront as an industry standard if it were not for this. Standalone blu-ray players were $1000+ at the time. But not only do you get a bluray player, you also get a full-on gaming console with some incredible tech specs for its time.

Apple is basically 2017's equivalent of 2006 Sony. They are packing all of the most recent advancements in technology that are standard on most devices at a lower cost (with less cohesion in implementation, IMHO) than if you were to get an S8 with just wireless charging and facial recognition (btw, no facial tracking systems in the newest Galaxy models, just facial recognition). Frankly, I think that it's a bit insensitive of Apple to try and do this to the people of the world considering the shitstorm that the world is currently in. They should have dropped all prices by $50-$100USD to make it much more competitive. At any rate, I'm just hoping that this will create another leap in innovation with other competitors. Which will, in turn, force Apple's hand again in trying to play catch-up. Hopefully they'll have something remarkable up their sleeve next year. Probably not since everyone and their grandmother will be telling Apple to shut up and take their money...
