Edit APNs/Get MMS and data working on straight talk without a jailbreak...

THIS DOES NOT WORK WITH iOS6, I can get your MMS working on 6 but it requires a Factory Unlock and a Sim from a company such as T-mobile to make the carrier data settings page come up (full tutorial in thread), I can factory unlock, just PM me if you need help with that.

I did not see another guy posted for this, if there is, I apologize. You need to download a program called iBackupBot for iTunes for this tutorial as well as a Plist Editor, I use Plist Editor For Windows.

1. Connect the iPhone and back it up with iTunes. I recommend using a new, fresh backup.

2. using iBackupBot open the new backup.


3. Sort by Path and find com.apple.mms_override.plist, double click it. Open the the com.apple.mms_override.plist that I uploaded here (You must right click the link and click save as)
inside your Plist Editor. This is for straight talk. You will need your own Plist if you are using a different carrier.


4. Copy and Past Entire Contents of the Plist you downloaded into the one opened up in iBackupbot, replacing everything! Save, Close the window for the Plist.

5. Check the box beside Library/Preferences/com.apple.mms_override.plist

6.Scroll down till you find SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist. It should be the 7th from the bottom if you sorted by path. At least it is on the 4S.

8. In here you are looking to make the following edits. On Lines 35, 79, and 209 you will replace what is below apn with ATT.MVNO (straight talk) or whatever is for your specific carrier. Save, Close the Plist.




9. Check the Box to the left of System Configuration/Preferences.Plist
10. Click File, Restore.

The Restore should be very quick and will cause your phone to reboot. Once it is fully rebooted, reboot the phone a second time manually by holding utilizing the slide to power off method. This should make your MMS and Data work. Watch what you do with the rest of the files in the program, doing something wrong here can cause you to lose important data such as pictures, texts, emails, etc. BE CAREFUL! *UPDATE*

Just ensuring everyone knows this, but this still works on iOS 6, I am on Beta 2 and it still works fine.

you're a fucking rockstar /LEGEND for this!!!!!!! in my phone a couple line numbers were off where I had to put ATT.MVNO but I just had ibackupbot search the word "apn" and found the correct lines and did the editing under those apn lines!!!THANKS!!!

Awesome!! Thank you! I just sold my print 4s and bought a ATT 4s and installed Straight talk today and I had mms trouble even with unlockit. Your fix worked!! Im sending pics!

Now to figure out tethering. Lol

All you have to do is press cancel and you will get around that!

on my 4S the 35,79,209 numbers were different so i had to manually look for the STRING

I've tried with no success. I'm using an iPhone 4s with iOS 5.1 before doing the plist edit I would get an error sending mms messages now it appears to go through but the recipient doesn't get the image. Any ideas?

Same procedure worked on my friend's regular Iphone 4, 5.1 (he didn't wanna tethered jailbreak for mms and has no previous blobs)...thanks again man!!

@Cold, yeah I know lol its just annoying haha. @Roller, Not a problem man, I am still looking into the tethering isuse. You could manually try changing the type-mask for the APN to different numbers..... Just if it says 1,2, or 4, don't change it. That is the only thing I am seeing, I am thinking it is in the Carrier bundle somewhere which does not appear to be backed up normally.

Did the 5.1.1 IP4S update from the phone yesterday and all my APN edits stayed in tact, just thought I'd mention it, data and mms still all good.

Do the exact same procedure, except use epc.t-mobile.com instead of ATT.MVNO and use the Plist located here when copy/pasting into the mms_override section.
