If i buy the unlocked iPhone 4 from the american website can i use it in the uk

Yh, well basically im wondering if i can buy it from the american website,
As its cheaper for me
In the uk apple store they are selling it for £499 which is equivalent to 735 dollers!!!!!
In the american store its 599 dollars which is evuivalent to 406 Pounds!
This way its waywaywaaaay cheaper.
So help me guys, will it work in the uk?
