Should've mentioned to use the hosts file, I'd already had it done for the last 2 versions of Parallels I had cracked.

Finally got around to making a time machine backup and installing Mountain Lion... it's actually really nice. i like it FAR better than Lion. And it is way faster too!!!

usually GM is the final release...

but if there is any major problem found they may push an update...

you should still be able to update with software update

it is always advisable to make a full backup before updating ANY system

So if I were to update with the GM version, you'd be able to run software update for 10.8.1/2/3 etc without any problems?

this has always been the case in the past....

So I'm getting my new Macbook Pro Retina shipped to me next week. Should I get the GM or do you think Apple would of shipped Mountain Lion with it... unlikely but the rumoured release date and the shipping receiving date would of giving hints they could of since they are in the same period. Either way I can still download Mountain Lion once its released.

I just got a 15" Retina MacBook Pro with 2.7 GHz i7, 16 Gb RAM, and 768 GB Flash Storage on Friday and it came with Lion. I'm gonna say probably 90% sure yours will come with Lion. No need to download the GM tho, whenever you buy a new Mac 1-2 months prior to release of a new OS they give you the upgrade free. Just gotta fill out a form on apple.com with your serial number, purchase date, and purchase location. Mountain lion is scheduled for release on Wednesday so check Apple's site then. That's what I will be doing

Worked fine for me. Double check your password. Maybe try changing it so you know it's right.

I think that new MacBook's will be shipped with the ML OS, since 2011' MB were sold with Lion GM installed.
Anyway, i doubt that release number will be different between GM and Released, GM is usually final version of system
