Although I would strongly suggest getting the phone fixed as the repair is not that bad, you need to download the lastest redsn0w and create a dfu firmware

Order a home button off eBay for $5.00 and watch an ifixit tut to learn how to do it.

What you need to do is activate with an att sim card....sounds like your not activated due to not having the att sim unless its unlocked "officially"....if you did the bezel switch and home button properly....you shouldnt have any issue with a restore through itunes....but like I said if your not activated you wont be able to do it.....I see your on t-mobile so unless your unlocked you cant use that yet....just buy one off ebay an try and get an unregistered one....Cooldayr would be able to tell ya more...
