HOW TO: Complete Factory Unlock Without Losing Jailbreak or Restoring

After your factory unlock has been delivered you may receive the following instruction or something similar that involves restoring.

To complete the unlock, simply:
Open iTunes on your Mac or PC and verify that you have Internet connectivity.
Ensure a SIM card is inserted into your iPhone.
Connect your iPhone using the dock connector to USB cable that came with your iPhone.
Backup and restore your iPhone using iTunes. For information on backup and restore, please visit iTunes: Restoring iOS software.
After restoring, your iPhone will be unlocked.

If you follow the above you'll be forced to restore to iOS 6(exception if you own an A4 device and use your saved SSH or AP ticket -but what a long process)

If your still on 5.1.1 and you don't want to loose your jailbreak. Here are the instructions:

FOR THE IPHONE 4S JUST POP IN ANOTHER CARRIER SIM CARD AND MAKE SURE YOU ARE CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET VIA WIFI (CAN ALSO WORK WITHOUT WIFI) OR CONNECT TO ITUNES.

Use Subscriber Artificial Module (SAM)
Internet connection is required.

Launch Cydia the go into Manage > Sources > Edit > Add then add the following source:

http://repo.bingner.com

Now search for SAM and SAMPrefs then download and install each of them on your iPhone 4.



Now go to Setting on your iPhone 4, and select SAM, when it opened, click "De-Activate iPhone" button and then "Revert Lockdownd to Stock" button.




Insert other carrier SIM and connect iPhone to PC or Mac via USB. Launch iTunes and wait for unlock to complete.

But am I missing something here
Had mine factory unlocked never restored device just put sim in while pluged into itunes message came up unlock sussesfull and that was it unlocked

Does this mean if I update to iOS 6 in the future my device will not be unlocked anymore ?

Once you are factory unlocked that's stays with the device for good.


Another way that works-
Connect the phone to itunes and reboot it while it is still connected to itunes. Once the phone boots up it gets unlocked

lol yeah i read that... i just had a friend here with a 4s that she bought on a canadian carrier called Rogers and wanted it on Telus... everytime i tapped revert to stock it errored out!

I have an iphone 4 on 5.0.1 with modem firmware 01.59.00. I am jailbroken and unlocked with utrasn0w but do not need to be since I am with AT&T. I have just kept it this way for resale value. I have received the email from AT&T with the instructions on how to factory unlock my phone. Can I use this method to factory unlock my phone without losing my jailbreak? I have tried using redsnow to deactivate my phone and then activate it in itunes but that does not seem to work. Not sure if being on 01.59.00 has anything to do with that. Thanks for the help.

I figured I would try the easiest way before I started using things like SAM or redsn0w to de-activate etc etc. as suggested above I plugged it into the computer, waited for it to sync and back up in itunes ( just in case ) i put in my t-mobile sim, then used SBSettings to reboot it. Went through a short activation process ( not the normal activation that happens on ios 5.0/5.0.1/5.1.1 etc ) and that's it, I'm factory unlocked and still jailbroken on 5.0.1 and I did not have to restore/update in iTunes.

Try what I just posted. I did it with both my iP4's and it worked perfect. I Didn't have to de-activate/restore/update in anyway.

Ive done this ^^ with 3 phones on my pc all worked no problems.
Another time 1 phone wouldn't work (dont know if it was my mates pc that was the problem?) so used the Sam de-activate method to work.

I don't think the 01.59 would affect anything because your not restoring/updating and trying to preserve the baseband. Since your with at&t, If you can get access to a tmobile sim ( even a old one with no service on it, I used a tmobile prepaid sim that hasn't had service for a few years ) and try what I posted above. Use SBSettings to reboot it while connected to iTunes

This method will not work for you. The method stated is for factory unlocking ( thats when the original carrier of the phone says you are no longer under contract Etc. etc. and they send the request to apple to unlock your phone through itunes ) because you have a bad ESN, one of 2 things happened,
1. you didn't pay your bill
2. you have a stolen iPhone.
Either way you wouldn't be able to get sprint to send the request to apple.

got mine unlocked! wohooo.. saw on itunes "CONGRATULATIONS YOUR PHONE HAS BEEN UNLOCKED" am yet to test it.

but i do have a question left... so what am i going to do with ULTRASNOW? can i uninstall it?

i used ULTRASNOW to preserve my baseband and i believe in one of my jailbreaking exploits had to install SAM (not for this unlock though). so can i safely uninstall/delete both apps?
